The waiting is painful. Once the Stanley Cup is over, all hell is going to break loose. I don't think any GM wants to upstage the finals. Once that cup is handed out, it is going to be crazy.

Can someone post the offer sheet compensation breakdown? For Weber, would it have been 2 first rounders?

it was 4. Go to www.capgeek.com and poke around there, I'm sure they have the comp listed.

Essentially, it's something like more than 5 yrs length or 8.2+ m aav triggers 4 firsts comp.

It was 4 firsts. The confusion stemmed from the fact that AAV of the overall deal placed into into the tier of 2 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd. However, you don't calculate compensation for the deal based on its full length (14 years), but rather than 1st 5 years of the deal, which in this case, had a considerably higher AAV and thus qualified for the top level of compensation.... 4 1st round selections.

Does draft pick compensation start the same year the deal is signed or the year after?

Free agency doesn't start til after the Draft so the picks would start the following year.

Restricted free agency takes place after the draft. We had already drafted Laughton last season when Weber was signed to the OS (July 19, matched July 24), so compensation would have started with next week's draft had they chosen not to match.

and you have to have the compensatory picks in place for the correct years. another words if the Flyers didnt have say their 2014 1st they would of not been able to hand out that Weber OS.

I don't think anything is going to happen until after the buyout window. Nothing technically can happen, I guess.

Damn. That's not too bad of a deal. Not sure I would have given up 11+ for him. Dodged a bullet or should we have topped it?

I don't think Bernier has proven enough to match.

I just realized that this isn't a trade that actually went down. I thought the deal was done. For the Kings and Leafs that is not a bad deal (though TBH I thought the Leafs were pretty content to roll with Reimer).

Don't know anything about Amart or his value. Whats the point of LA taking Komisarek just to pay him not to play there? Anyone explain that to me? tia

This is just a rumour, correct?

Anyway, I'm not bothered if the Leafs get him. We can just get Scrivens off them.

Yeah I thought that was a done deal the way it was written, too.

Totally agree. Mason has shown more than Bernier and is what, a year older?

Probably to sweeten the deal for Toronto. Basically, "you want our first round pick...you are buying out Komisarek, not us." Think of it like in baseball where guys are traded for cash. That's essentially the gist of it.

I ask Randy Miller decent questions every now and then and he never responds, so I figured I'd ask a really dumb question with an obvious answer and tweet like a moron. He answered me. Proof he only answers softball questions he can't get wrong.

I asked him if the Tor rumor was legit, here's his reply:

@PhillyPhlyr Kings aren't taking Komisarek to amnesty him. Don't think Leafs have right assets to get Bernier.

I think it's an easy pass from us. We'll roll with Mason and see what happens. Our first round pick is too valuable for us. We need to stock our system.

LA's trading from a position of strength; they should not have to take on the Komisarek buyout to make that trade happen... unless they're entirely sure they won't use both of their buyouts on their existing players. Their only true buyout candidates are Quick, Carter and Richards (based on long contracts that may eventually bite them in the ass), so maybe they don't care.
