He would be useful if he wasn't on IR every other week.

Perhaps that Arturs Irbe, Jr.

In the next CBA negotiations, the league will no doubt be arguing that they want to eliminate the goalie position and replace them with wood covers with three holes cut in them that they used to use between periods. Perhaps they'll add two in the top corners too.

Yah but he's most effective at C, don't you think? Sort of taking away his bread and butter based on my observations.

Yah, hence my "cheap" and "end of summer" comments. Not a guy you target early. Get him when he's desperate to sign on with a winning team somewhere.

Haha. My guess is those pads are all designed for helping shooters to hit the weak spots around the net. If you can score on a goalie with those pads and glove, scoring on a goalie with regular pads and glove will seem easy.

God dammit...I really wish we got Vigneault for so many reasons. He would have been perfect.

I thought that was contingent on the team being sold.

Meh. We heard from a Vancouver fan in some detail that he's pretty much similar to Bylsma in a lot of ways. Not convinced he'd be any better. You need a real change. Tippett would've brought that but we knew that wasn't happening... is what is.

Yah I think his allegiance is to his team, not the city.

He wasn't extended because of the possibility of the franchise moving, well up until now. That's why I said he's fine with moving after all

.
I live in Vancouver (gotta change that location in my profile, dammit!), so I'm very familiar with him.

Vigneault would have been much better. He's a very creative tactician. With the tools he would have had in Pittsburgh, he could have done some very cool things. His special teams have pretty much always been very good. He gets a lot out of star players. He's a master of matching lines. The main complaints about him are the same complaints that everyone has about their head coach (doesn't play young players enough, is finicky with lines, etc.). At the very worst, Vigneault would not have been worse than Bylsma. And it's very possible that he could have been better. That's the most perplexing thing to me about why we didn't appear to take a serious look at him.

I wonder what they would do if the damage rendered the arena unusable for next season?

Play their home games in Edmonton?

Not sure but possibly relocating them to another city until the arena is back ready to go. Might give the NHL a chance to also test out a city for future purpose

Yeah, that's what the NBA did with the New Orleans Hornets after Katrina. They split a season or two between NO and Oklahoma City. OKC later got a team when the Seattle Sonics moved.

Maybe the Flames play out of Seattle if the Coyotes move? Saskatoon has an NHL size arena, if I recall correctly, and that might be the best option.

Apparently water has reached the box level in the Saddledome. Unreal. Wishing Calgary the best. The arena seems like the least of their worries.

Is that Luongo's feed? If so that's pretty funny. I doubt Torts finds it funny though.

Rob Scuderi on the FAN the other day.

He doesn't feel that the Kings will sign him.

Talked about his days as Penguin. And the two Cup finals appearances. Said that the '07-'08 Wings team was the best team he has ever played against. That the Penguins had never seen a team playing that system and we never made the proper adjustments. "it took us a few games to play the proper way. I don't want to say we were outclassed, but we were just experiencing that level for the first time, and before we got under our feet, we were already down 2 games. But the next year, in '09, we were ready at puck drop in game 1."

Looking like things will be a lot tighter tonight, unless B's can get shots toward Crawford's glove side.
