Apparently Wild are in the running for Bernier as well. I forgot that they could use someone like him. They can do very well with short goalies, as seen with Backstrom. Still wouldn't hate a Read for Bernier trade, even though Read might be hard to replace, especially for his price.
Some think 3M for Read is too much. Just ****ing lol... He's a better player than half of their team.
That's the Paul Holmgren way of dealing with the cap. $3 million is a problem since Quick's extension begins this upcoming season and Brown is due for an extension and raise. A number of RFAs also have to be re-signed, and Voynov just received a raise.
And if you think he's better than half the team, if you're talking the bottom 6, yeah, you're right. But as of right now, Brown/Kopitar/Williams/Richards/Carter are all better than him. All 5 of those guys play both ends of the ice like he does. Would he be a good fit on LW? I am not sure because of his size. He would be on the second line and Richards is already a pretty small guy so having two of them together might be a problem.
King won't cost that much and I don't think Greene will be too expensive either. Brown will probably get about 5 million some, but even if the cap goes up, they'll have room for someone like Read.
Captain a team to the cup gets you more than 5 mill. Look at what some of these deals are...ridiculous.
I'm betting that the deals are just a bit higher in return than we think but not crazy high like our beat writers. I'm happy to trade read plus a second max. If they want more then dont do it. Especially because we may very well have our stater in mason
Toronto should be looking for a Thomas or a Luongo/Bryzgalov post-buyout.
They should not have significant interest in Bernier realistically.
I'm getting the notion that LA is driving up the price through rumors.
I mean...how can you, with a straight face, ask for Voracek?
Have you ever gone to a bar, ordered a beer, and the when you pull out your wallet the bartender asked you for $100?
Are you taking Panaccio's comment about them asking for Voracek seriously or did you hear this somewhere else? There is no way they expect to get Voracek and they can't afford him, regardless. Panaccio's comment was not coming from anyone except himself thinking out loud.
