So what did happen with the animals at the zoo? One report said they were taken to the courthouse, which was later dismissed. But really what did they do?

I think they are just up on higher ground for now, if it gets any worse they will move them out.

I would easily imagine that was a punch line that you somehow missed.

They moved the animals up on higher ground. The question I guess being whether they had enough enclosures to keep certain animals away from certain other animals. In the haste mistakes could be made and I hope the animals are safe as well.

Gotta say it too. Bang up job in southern Alberta and various communities and people keeping safe and for the most part smart. Keep hoping that everybody comes out OK in this.

They said its a contingency plan to move the big cats to the jails in the courthouse, but they havent done it yet. Since the rivers have crested, they hope they wont have to, but things can change. I thought the courthouse was downtown though, so that doesnt seem like a very good plan.

They said they took the pot bellied pigs to an animal shelter and the zebras to a sanctuary south of town. All the rest of the animals are apparenlty safe and on higher ground. Hopefully thats the case and stays that way.

In other news..

Calgary Zoo

Where would the Flames play if they demolished the Saddledome to build a new arena? If that is the case, then forget what I said. Unless the repair costs are pretty minimal(not looking likely at this point), then just speed up the plans for the new arena. No point throwing money at something you're going to blow up.

And wow @ the zoo. It's just a nightmare down there right now. I hope the animals are ok, and that the people responsible for caring for them are as well, in these emergency situations.

I will echo kudos to all those keeping people safe down south. Thank you for your hard work. I am very thankful to live in a country with the infrastructure to handle these kinds of situations with a minimal loss of life and property. In a lot of places this would have been much, much worse.

Reports are saying 4 people have died from the flooding so far, including the woman on a trailer back in Black Diamond.

I'm seeing that on Twitter now as well.

Very sad that fatalities are now a part of all this as well as all the property destruction.

Not really. When you buy a flat you get 1@ not 24@. To me that looks like someone bought 24 aquafina. And truth be told you by it from a corner store, that's what you pay.

They could've. The person who posted it claimed that they bought a flat but maybe they're lying just to be dramatic.

Isn't that illegal? How can it not be?

Edit: Hmm guess I should have looked at the receipt closer.

The price is nuts. I've never seen a store anywhere that charges as much as 2bucks for a single bottle of Aquafina which is one of the poorer varieties of bottled water. A few years back the manufacturers had to admit their product is tap water.

This is 49bucks for a dozen litres of tapwater. That is gouging.

Screw it, just by two cases of Pillsner. Oh wait, that comes from Lethbridge.. maybe not.

I've seen Aquafina for that much, it really depends on the corner store. And it was probably stored in a flat, but being sold separately, which is why there could've been some confusion on the customer's part.

$2 for a bottled anything is pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, that looks like 24 single bottles from a corner store in a small country town.

My wife went to Safeway this morning and there was no bottled water left. We have lots anyways so I wasnt worried. She did wait in line for a couple hours though, but at long last, we got our junk food for the weekend.
