Regardless of the offers, I'm sure LAK will wait until close to the draft to move him. There's no reason not to.

If the Leafs deal for Bernier, I have a feeling both fanbases won't be happy with the pieces being exchanged.

E.g. Leafs fans will think too much was given up and Kings fans will think it's not enough.

As a Kings fan, I hope Lombardi can put a package together (Bernier, Martinez, Holloway, etc.) for a single prospect or young player of exceptional potential, rather than some pieces in return.

And I believe this 'final 3' is a smokescreen.

3 Niemi Antti - undrafted, chicago walked away from a arbitration ruling, sign as a UFA with San Jose

4 Anderson Craig - 3rd round pick in 1999, re-entered draft picked again in the 3rd by Chicago, claimed on waiver 3 times ended back in Chicago, Traded to Florida for a 6th rounder, Signed as a UFA in Colorado, Traded for Brian Elliot

5 Rask Tuukka - Drafted 21st, traded for Andrew Raycroft.

6 Howard Jimmy - Drafted 2nd round

7 Emery Ray - 4th round draft pick, Bought out, Signed as a UFA with Philly, Anaheim and Chicago

8 Crawford Corey - Drafted 2nd round

9 Hiller Jonas - Undrafted, Signed as a UFA

10 Backstrom Niklas - Undrafted, Signed as UFA

Price Carey MTL - picked 6th overall
Most teams drafting goalies early in the first round are desperate for one...they draft for need. Even the Kings did so with JB. But this time the guy wasn't rushed because another goalie stepped up plus it was Lombardi managing the development.

Lombardi has an immaculate track record in this and the scouts agree. That's why so many teams want him.

That's pretty much normal HF thinking but I think the only kind of player like that we can use is a defenseman.

I hope Minnesota gets Bernier. I really wanted him to the Lightning last year (he seems like a hell of a goalie). Minnesota seems like a really good fit too me.

Rest assured that if Toronto is truly one of the final 3 teams, the asking price is no where near this. Toronto is counting on Frattin going forward and their new GM probably wants to make a mark at his first draft no?

Isn't this trading for Bernier's RFA rights?

Yeah, LA fans won't get close to what they want for him.

Literally zero chance Nonis gives up Frattin and a 1st or 2nd for Bernier.

That's what I said.. RFA rights are still worth a lot less than a signed player.

Not to mention this guy has only played like 62 regular season games, and only half of a playoff game. You guys are asking for prices that bona fide starters would fetch.

Not really. RFA's still retain their value, especially when they aren't expected to make very much. I would be surprised if Bernier made much more than $2 million. It also gives the club the opportunity to sign a contract friendly to their own needs. Having to sign a player isn't much of a problem, especially so much so that it devalues him. Can't think of any RFA that has been devalued by not being signed when there is no threat of them leaving the NHL. Just not a problem whatsoever.

No we're not. Lupul/JvR on the left, Kessel/Kulemin/MacArthur on the right. Frattin is absolutely a spare part with regards to our top 6.

How dare you mock Homer with an incredibly accurate rendition of what may likely happen?

Though he does tend to do fairly well on not overpaying in trades as compared to his FA moves.

Upshall and a 2nd for Dan Carcillo, notwithstanding. That was a move forced by an immediate cap problem (of which he was ultimately responsible, but still. A favorable view of that trade would be Upshall and a 2nd for Dan Carcillo and the ability to keep Claude Giroux on the Flyers roster for the rest of year.)

If I was Bernier, I would have my agent call DL and tell him I would rather stay in LA as the backup than go to Toronto. LA has a better team and a better shot of winning. Quick was injured last season, whats to say it doesn't happen again. Bernier could be in a familiar spot in Toronto, stuck as a backup. At least going to LA gives him a much better shot at getting his name on another cup. The Kings would keep Bernier if he was comfortable being a backup. Ultimately, the Kings are trying to do JB a solid, and put him somewhere that he can be successful and in return the Kings get something valuable and won't have to play against him once a month. If he isn't going to be the de facto number 1, I dont think Bernier or the Kings are in any urgency to get a trade done.

Huh??? Yea, let's just be a backup and hope for the best or play in the most rabid hockey city there is, where you can become a god if you win..

Makes sense to me..
