OK, so I guess that means Belanger fell off a cliff. I know he regressed in the last couple of years, but I thought he was still playing at an NHL level. I didn't watch a lot of Oilers games this year, though, so I didn't know. Whether Belanger is an NHL-worthy player in 2013 wasn't the point. The previous poster mentioned both Belanger and Horcoff, so it wasn't a comment that meant "hey, this guy Belanger is crap, and this guy Konopka is crap too, so I want crap to replace crap". My point was that Konopka has never been an everyday NHL player or even an average 4th line center. Belanger was a good bottom-six forward for over a decade, and even if he fell off a cliff, his hockey sense means he's almost certainly still a better defensive player than Konopka. That is all. You wanted to score a cheap point, and that made your day, you're welcome.

I would love to have Konopka back on the Sens... he does it all except score/pass. Pretty solid defensively and awesome at thowing his big body around... but we dont have the room to place him at his natural position

only think keeping ZK as a regular scratch is his decision making...when you talk about players knowing when to pick spots, well, ZKs spot is every single shift. Coaches tend to not like that, even if a guy like that can help you out most nights with the right timing. From a fan and i'm sure from a teammate perspective you love a guy like that on your side, who is not only willing but eager to take some physical abuse to give his team an edge but not when you're doing it the first shift of a 0-0 game where nothing that warrants a response has taken place. Refs look for it, and chances you're hurt on the ensuing instigator or more likely roughing penalty are greater than the chances it's going to set the tone in a positive way for your team.

What do you want from Rangers for just Konopka?
Overpayment need not apply.

Well things change; the Wild have younger/cheaper options that can fill a similar role and they can obtain other assets by dealing him.

Nonsense....just give us Nick Leddy back

He only played 4 shifts in game #4 anyway.

With the two very promising prospects we have at goalie who are near NHL-ready, I would think hard about this deal.. IIRC, this upcoming season is the last year of his current contract? I know he had a down year and he's virtually out of Buffalo.. Hmm. Throw in Jake McCabe and I'd take it.

Don't really want to deal him to a divisional opponent. Rather send him out East. That is, of course, unless the offer is too good to refuse.

1.)Listen I get it you wanted to make a trade idea but We CAN NOT trade Gunnarsson. If anything we need a second Gunnarsson.

2.) Clutterbuck and Konopka would be adored by RC and I will agree with you that I would like them in our bottom 6.

3.) Where did Grabovski disappear to?

I would love to get Clutterbuck on the Leafs. What does Minnesota need other than cap space?

Top 4 d-man and a 2nd line center if we don't re-sign Cullen (Granlund will probably need a bit more time to develop). Maybe a 3rd line LW too.

I'd definitely love to see Edmonton make an offer for a Clutterbuck/Gilbert package.

Something around Marincin and Anaheim's 2nd?

Cal Clutterbuck and Tom Gilbert both fit in perfectly with Toronto.

Questions for Minnesota fans:

A. How much cap space is Fletcher looking to save?
B. How much is Cal Clutterbuck seeking now that he is RFA?
C. What are your needs?

A/ Right now Minnesota has about 6 million in cap space to work with. 10 million if we move Gilbert. So, probably not a ton but we can't retain a lot of salary back.

B/2-3.5 million I wouldn't be surprised.

C/ Goaltender, top 4 defenseman, draft pick, prospects

For Cal Clutterbuck and Tom Gilbert:

C Joe Colborne ('B' prospect, Former DU Pioneer)
D Korbinian Holzer (NHL ready 25 year old defensive defenceman, cheap cap hit)
3rd Round Pick (2014)

Holzer is locked up for 2 more years at $787K.

Top shutdown defenceman with AHL team.

To be honest, I think Minnesota could get better for Clutterbuck alone.

I was under the impression that Gilbert was a cap dump.

I can see Toronto going hard after Clutterbuck since we just lost Leo Komarov to the KHL. They are extremely similar players and the Maple Leafs system works more efficiently when you have a guy like Clutterbuck/Komarov. Komarov finished 5th in the NHL for hits.

Minnesota GM Fletcher is the son of Maple Leafs advisor Cliff Fletcher.

I'm sure they've talked. There is no other player that the Maple Leafs should target more this offseason.

No. I think they are exploring options to move Gilbert if it comes to that to get breathing room but Gilbert is still our best option in the top 3/4 slot of defense. He's not a cap dump in the sense that he is terrible and can't play. Minnesota can fit him under the cap, not comfortably but they can. They might explore options and see what is out there but they will probably be reluctant to pull the trigger.

I can see Clutterbuck getting a 2nd back easily, maybe even a low 1st round pick. But I think I can see Clutter getting a 2nd and a top 10 prospect back. He might have had an off year but some team will still see him as a pest that can be reformed.

You guys have $6.7M to spend to replace:

Cal Clutterbuck (RFA)
Pierre-Marc Bouchard
Niklas Backstrom
Matt Cullen
Jared Spurgeon (RFA)
Justin Falk (RFA)

You need to move either Tom Gilbert, Devin Setoguchi or Dany Heatley to make it happen.

- Moving Gilbert saves you $4M, he's likely the most attractive of the three.
- Moving Setoguchi saves you $3M, which isn't much.
- Nobody is touching Heatley and his $7.5M.

You're downplaying the situation.

Not really. Veillieux can replace Clutter. PM Bouchard is a shell of his former self and was likely not going to be retained. Poms was brought in to replace Butch. Cullen while nice to have back can be replaced by Coyle or Granlund.

Spurgeron and Falk won't take more than a million each. Backstrom could get three and a half and Minnesota is fine. Right now the biggest thing is constancy and not too much change.

Backstrom is not taking a $2.5M pay cut.

Replacing Clutterbuck/Bouchard/Cullen with Granlund/Veillieux/Dowell is not going to get you into the playoffs.
