Suter led the Wild in points for a good while, pretty impressive considering they signed Parise as well.

Flyers announced they're buying out Briere. Can't be done until after the Finals, though.

I'm extremely interested to hear what kind of new deal he wants. Size/age I know I know, but I think he'd mightily improve the skill level of the top 6.

Size age and -- a pretty substantial decline last year.
It was a short season, the and the Flyers were a mess. But 16 points?

I'd be interested to know how much people would pay for him.
I don't think I'd pay more than $4M a year for him for more than 2 years.

And even then... you just know that signing Briere is going to cost Tatar or Nyquist.

Not necessarily. It's hard to say how the lines will shake out right now with Sammy, Flip, Brunner, and Cleary all question marks.

Hey, you have to admit it could reduce the likelihood of Abdelkader or Cleary staying in the top 6

That would absolutely be a benefit.
Briere has some upside -- all that playoff scoring sure is awesome
Then again, the Flyers were in a lot of 6-4 games..

I'm thinking right now it's a matter of Brunner or Cleary.

And I'm guessing we're all hoping it's Brunner

Their goalie was Bryzgalov and their defense is non-existent. Not saying Briere is any reliable defensively, his +/- has had some horrific seasons.

That's worth considering for sure. We'd likely see his numbers suffer in a far more defensive Wings system.

Like I said, I'd have to see what kind of contract he wants. And ultimately, considering he already got his payday, he'll probably pick the team he wants and modify the money to fit their budget. I'm sure at this stage in his career winning a Cup is priority #1 and I could see him sliding into the Pens or Bruins without too much fuss on a discount.

Brunner is a pretty slick offensive player. He'd go a long way towards maintaining a 3rd line that can actually score. That was pretty nice in the playoffs.

Certainly the system did help, would love to hand him our second PP unit to run though. He is good in both entering the zone and controlling action in a way we all hoped Filppula might become but never did.

Some of that was Bryzgalov - but some of that was run-and-gun hockey the Flyers played without much regard to defense.
He was (and maybe is) the kind of player who can help you when you give the offense the green light

I think it depends on if we re-sign Brunner or not. If we re-sign Brunner then I don't think we go after him but if we don't re-sign Brunner I'd expect us to be after him. I think he would be quite successful if we was put into Brunner's role, 3rd line & #1/2 PP minutes. As for his contract I think 2 years x 7-9M would be fair value for him, I think he can still give us 45-60 points & he's a big time playoff performer.

Dave Tippett and the Phoenix Coyotes have agreed on a five-year extension. The NHL has approved it, as well.

USA Hockey to announce its management team/coaching staff for Olympics tomorrow in NYC. It's expected NSH GM David Poile will be team USA GM

Poile was an assistant to Brian Burke in 2010 but since Burke isn't currently employed as an NHL GM he wasn't considered for it this time.

The Saddledome in Calgary is in pretty rough shape today.

Flooding in Calgary has left the arena submerged up to row 10.

Both dressing rooms are covered in water and the jumbo tron room is also submerged with all equipment destroyed.

That's a pic of the surrounding area, I have to think this is going to delay/cancel the stampede which would be a pretty big hit to the city.

It's really quite crazy how bad the damage is in the southern regions is while at the same time the north-eastern regions (my neck of the woods) are pretty much fine. I'm just glad that there have been no casualties.

Perhaps a good sign for the ongoing negotiations if you're a Phoenix fan. As someone who wants that franchise moved to Seattle tomorrow, I don't know what to make of this.

That is awful, and when reading about it they have some big events coming up there, so lots of lost revenue.

With the Wings and Oilers announcing plans. Islanders moving to Brooklyn. Really in a couple years the Saddledome will be the second oldest building in the league right?

As we all know the oldest in MSG doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

What I find most odd is how slowly they are making this series go on, while it was of utmost importance to have two weekend games at the start of the Red Wings/Penguins finals series in 09 and give the Wings two off days in between after winning their series in five games.

No I'm not saying it was fixed. I am saying it was stupid.

They ran Vigneault out of town; I'm guessing it will take even less time to do the same to Torts.
