I like him.
Where did you read these quotes on the kids? I can't find it anywhere.

We really don't need much this offseason.

Trade DZ for a top-6 winger, and roll with:

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
xx-Brassard-Callahan
Hagelin-Lindberg-Fast/Miller/Thomas
Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
Moore-Eminger/McIlrath

The only "assumption" with this roster is that one of Miller/Thomas/Fast will be able to play 3rd line duties, which I don't think is too much to ask for, considering Miller played the third line for a ton of last season.

We could upgrade our third pairing with a Zidlicky like signing if Big Mac isn't ready, and upgrade our fourth line with a Nystrom like signing. Otherwise, let the kids play.

Haven't read all of this/been active in the discussion, so forgive me if I'm repeating what many have said or if this is all common knowledge, but this is my take on the offseason..

First off, asking Vancouver to trade Bieksa would be the equivalent of asking us to trade Girardi if he had 2 extra years on his contract.

We need to bolster our 4th line. Pyatt is too slow and Asham is to inconsistent/gets hurt too much to be confident with. A player like Eric Nystrom would be perfect on the wing with Boyle and Dorsett. Energy and the ability to go into the dirty areas and win the battles that we've been losing for the past year.

IMO, I think we should strengthen the top 6 enough (via either trades or free agency) to get Hagelin and Callahan onto the 3rd line. With a center like Lindberg, they have a combination of elite speed (Hagelin), grit (Callahan), defensive awareness (all 3) and the ability to produce offensively. Lindberg hasn't played in NA at all yet but from what we've been hearing he should be ready.

Kreider should get an expanded role with AV and I think we'll see him break out this year. He's the type of player who plays to the level of his linemates; of course he wasn't scoring when Brian Boyle and Arron Asham were his linemates, but he has shown flashes that with Stepan/Nash he can make an impact on the game. Those flashes will turn into a consistent effort eventually.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Zuccarello-Brassard-xxxx
Hagelin-Lindberg-Callahan
Nystrom-Boyle-Dorsett

If Kreider isn't ready to play with Stepan and Nash, switch him and Hagelin.

Who slots in on that 2nd line RW? That spot can be on the left too, depending on if Zucc can play the right side. Do we trade for someone? Do we re-sign Clowe? Try Briere? Do we sign someone available who would fit in better on the 3rd line and move Callahan up to the 2nd? Lot of options.

Not to mention we'll most likely be starting the year without Hags and Callahan..

BlueChip broke out lockout news on the Oilers board, he has been a credible source according to their moderators. Apparently, none of the core are being moved. I'm assuming the core is Schultz, Hall, RNH, Eberle and Yakupov. This leaves the 7th overall and Paajarvi in play I guess.

^^^^^---------- Oiler Mod confirming legitimacy.

Man, my mouth is just salivating at the thought of a blockbuster trade, whether or not the Rangers are involved. Pretty excited to see what MacT does.

Please finish in 6 games SCF! I like both teams, so it doesn't matter!

I agree that the core consists of those players. Hopefully it's nothing to with Hemsky. Mdz for the 7th and Paajarvi.

What happened to Zucc? The organization has indicated that they want to re-sign him.

There's some post on there saying the 2 main teams are Ottawa and Toronto and the other three are rumored to be Columbus, Detroit, and Carolina.

Who knows how legit any of that is, but it doesn't seem we're involved with Edmonton atm.

Hopefully we'll be one of the teams coming out of Edmonton with a good trade.

Any chance Christian Thomas can make it as a 3rd line offensive forward?

You are also assuming that Kreider can produce in a top 6/1st line role throughout the season, and that Brassard can finally become a dependable 2nd line C. Add that to the 2 rookies on the 3rd line assumption and you really ahve to start questioning how much of a competitor this team is. For a team that just fired its coach because a 2nd round exit wasn't good enough, I can't see how they can go into next season with that lineup and expect to go further

Def not in the short term. I'm not really sold long term either, but he's still a legit prospect.

Only concern with him, and correct me if I'm wrong everyone, is that he's weak on his skates but has a great shot and all.

Andrew Yogan had 4 points less Miller in just about the same amount of games. He was also a plus 8 while Miller was a minus 12. Any chance of Yogan getting a shot at the bottom 6?

One trade is Hemsky. One trade is Horcoff. One trade is the 7th. Just a guess.

I wish Horcoff's contract wasn't so big. He'd be a perfect 3rd line center to slot in behind Stepan and Brassard.

That's the lineup I have in mind too...first line can be great, so can the third (love that combination), and I think that 4th can be one of the best in the league; I have Powe as the 13th forward and can slot in...

The only question is who goes with Zucc and Brass. I'd love Clowe, if it was 4 years ago! The dude is on the way down, and three concussions this year--two of which were in two weeks?? No thanks...

I'm a Girardi fan, but with Torts now in Vancouver, I feel like you have to try to move him and get some above market value while you still can.

Ye, here are my guesses:

Hemsky at 1m retained salary for Zack Smith.

Horcoff at 2m retained salary for Betuzzi.

7th overall for Yandle

Agreed.
But I made post cause I would not be surprised if Sabres made a crazy stupid offer. Maybe not massively insanely stupid, but clearly crazy overcompensation if we told them this is a one time offer.

He's got terrific speed.
But he's like 5'9 and unless that speed can offset, he may have problems with checking. He should be ok offensively.

If Lindberg has a good season and puts up 30-40 points that lineup can be a homerun. The more I think about it, i really want Clowe to take a paycut he can fit in on that second line REAL well. he's a finisher and in the early run him and Brassard had great great chemistry (both like to go around the net so), also he gives room for Zuccarello to work his magic. We'd also have grit on every line, if Kreider continues the mean streak he left the playoffs with we'd be absolutely set. Just need someone tough for the defense and we're good to go. I especially like that the entire bottom 6 can skate very well (sans Boyle but oh well) and put up points. That's a feature this team hasn't had in a long time.

I hope so.
Depends on who else is ahead of him.

It's not clear he is ready 100% to step in, but he is ready to compete for our 4th line C or W. Has some scoring history, want him to succeed.

I'd love to see the Rangers go out and get one of the following players:

Shawn Matthias
Marcus Foligno
Charlie Coyle

It would be painfully expensive, but we need that type of player badly in the forward ranks.
