Okay iggy and maybe kovalchuk(rare)as for the other names give me a break there all pansies and can't fight.
lol kovalchuk i remember him pulling mike comries hair in a fight,

iginla and lecavlier both tossed great knuckles in their primes. the tilt they had in the finals was awesome because iginla tuned everyone he fought in 04 until lecav held his own.

ps im an oilers fan and it is hard for me to give nay flame props

Does Lucic fit in there?
Neither does igilna then.... If you include iggy, lucic is also included however both should be excluded. 30 GM's would take lucic on their team over Igilna at this point in their careers. Chara should be added though.

Gordie Howe best ever

Hall of famer Clark Gillies needs to be mentioned. Like Howe, his fights impacted games and playoff series. Ask Dave Schultz or Terry O'Reilly,

Shore (?)
Richard
Howe
Chara
Probert (?) - not really a superstar, but definitely a star by his own way

My first thought when I saw the title was Iginla.

Iginla isn't a superstar anymore. There's a big difference between a superstar and a has been.

That said, I'd go with Kovy or Chara.

Joe Thornton isn't bad at fighting. Don't know if he's been in many in San Jose but, I remember him beating up a few guys when he was here in the bean.

I know Crosby has fought but, I wouldn't consider him good at it. I've always thought Ovie would mess someone up if they let him go

OP didn't specify that they had to presently be a superstar.

Iginla, at one point, was considered by many to be the best winger in the game. His dominance in the 2000s decade trumps anything Lucic has ever done. His inclusion is warranted, Lucic's is not.

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Gilbert Perreault yet.

Others that need more attention in this thread are Larry Robinson, Cam Neely, Brendan Shanahan, Chris Pronger and Clark Gillies.

Gordie Howe definitely takes this one though.......

I have a question related to this topic, specifically Gordie Howe: I've often heard that he only had a couple of "Gordie Howe hat tricks" over the course of his career. Given his goal/assist production over the course of so many games, it would seem that he didn't fight very often at all; otherwise it'd be a huge coincidence that the games in which he fought don't overlap with more games where he scored points.

Were fighting penalties tracked differently in the 50s/60s? Or was fighting so uncommon that he developed a reputation based on just one or two fights per season?

Everyone was absolutely terrified of him.......was a case of nobody being foolish enough to fight him.

I think the legend of Howe is much greater than the truth. There is much more documentation regarding the Rocket's fighting prowess than there is of Howe. There is the one time they supposedly tussled with Howe supposedly one punching Richard but that seems sketchy as Richard's character would have at some point called for him to try to exact revenge. Not to take away from Howe, but to say no one fought him because they were scared seems to be a bit of an exaggeration. It probably had more to do with having to eat a stick or elbow before ever getting close enough to fight.

Iginla for me but I'm sure I'm being biased. I haven't seen much of Nash dropping them since he left CBJ and definitely won't see Kovy fight again. When Malkin goes he goes! That fight against one of the Bruins in either Game 1 or Game 2 was crazy, he just pounded him. Geno is huge! Hate the Flyers but Hartnell can score 25 goals and fight pretty well too. Also Lecavalier is a tough guy, as mentioned above, the fight vs. Iginla in the '04 Finals was very good!!! Best players in the game IMO are the ones who can score +25 and are willing to drop with any player.

I would have to go with Eric Lindros for all-time. He didn't lose many fights during his career.

Few wanted to fight Howe because of his strength and fighting ability. No one wanted to go in the corner with him because of his elbows.
