Interesting. Mention as well of Bill Big Whistle Chadwick. Interesting character. In 35 while trying out for the US National Team, seconds after hitting the ice first practice, took a puck in the eye that blinded it for life. Tried a comeback, but got cut over his one remaining good eye, figured it wasnt worth the risk, hung em up. He was however coaxed backed into game as a Ref, his career Legend amongst the Zebra Tribe. Never let on to anyone that he was in fact "blind" when being screamed at that he was in fact, "blind", and getting quite a chuckle out of it. He was the guy who introduced hand signals, Refereeing almost all Playoff games for over a decade thereafter. Went on to the broadcast booth in New York working with Marv Albert, Sal Marchiano & Jim Gordon in New York for years, late 60's through the mid-80's I believe.
