Torts named head coach on the Canucks.

Sedins to start blocking shots?

i think the trading of coaches is a good move for van/nyr. AV and Torts seem like polar opposites and both of them seemed to have lost the ear of their respective team. Though, I think AV will have more success than torts.

Torts seems like the last kind of guy that will succeed with the players currently in Vancouver. With how soft that team is and how much they dive, you really think an in your face coach like that is going to work out? I'm thinking no, but then again, maybe it will turn out to be exactly what they need. Only time will tell.

I think they are soft and whiny because that's how they were molded by AV, Torts may be able to snap them back to reality. And AV should be a breath of fresh air in NY after the rein of Torts the Terrible.

Could be, but I think he also had the perfect players in place to mold that way... Either way, both coaches definitely needed to go, and I think AV in NY is a good fit, just not sold on Torts in Vancouver.

yea, I agree that AV was a better hire for NY than Torts was for Van.

Daniel Sedin to block a shot in season opener and suffer a career ending injury. Henrik to retire out of sadness.

Flames officials are saying that they plan to be ready to go in the Saddledome at the start of the next season.

Here's hoping that they're right and not just optimistic.

He said he talked to poile bc Nashville had something similar happen and he was told they had to work flatout and barely got the cleanup done...and their flooding happened in may.

Jonathan Bernier has been traded to Toronto for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens, and a second round pick in 2014 or 2015 (Toronto's option)

I think LA wins that one.

Think right now both teams are content with what they got

I though dont understand the reason for Leafs to get Bernier. I thought Reimer showed good potential these past few years and Scrivens was solid #2

I guess they saw how much fun Vancouver's been having and decided they wanted their own goalie controversy.

They probably are pretty happy

But Bernier for Scrivens is a lateral move right now, especially for LA where Bernier wasn't going to get much development time anyway. That might be my pro-Scrivens bias showing up because I've always liked the guy.

So to me it looks like LA got Frattin and a 2nd for no real loss.

I think it's a good deal. Scrivens for Bernier isn't a lateral move...Bernier is a definite upgrade over Scrivens and I really think Bernier's the real deal.

Losing Frattin isn't that big a deal...he was a nice player for the Leafs to have but he's replaceable.

Overall imo the trade is a pretty fair one.

Backstrom extended. Fletcher probably made a serious bid on Bernier if wrapped this up a day later. 3yr x 10.25 for Backstrom. Given the circumstances, I think it was a solid contract that won't put Minnesota in a bad place. If Harding can't play there will be plenty of good and cost-effective options for backup goalies the next couple years.

They have no 1sts for the next couple years. Those went in the Pominville trade. i don't think they could afford to give up their seconds like Toronto did. their minor league prospects are only so so. Way over valued. There is really no other possible goalie for them so they were kind of screwed. Now we can all hear how Vanek is going there for whatever reason after next year. People here think players just want to play in MN for whatever reason. I guess it is because they always have longer summers than the Hawks and Bruins....etc.
