DiMaio's carrer in jeopardy

I still think that the Latendresse hit was legal

http://www2.sportsnet.ca/blogs/hocke...reer_in_limbo/

But it's always sad when injuries like this happens

I never saw the hit, I posted the link on the NHL board, and the Tampa Board, but figured posting it here would seem like I was stiring up trouble.

DiMaio certainly thinks it was dirty.

It's Rob Dimaio. He should have retired anyways.

Besides, doing it "face to face", dimaio would have been mashed anyways. Who cares.

Hits to the head are always questionable. Until the NHL decides to act on them, you can't really consider them cheap.

well If a player is ejected from the game over the hit, I would say its probably some sort of cheapshot?

It depends, the call wasn't really fair IMHO, after passing the video over and over , I still think that no Elbow was involved and no Boarding as well. The hit was with the shoulder and on the side of the player, wich is totally legal to me.

Again It's sad to see player injured like this, but it happens in sports.

Well I cant imagine how everyone would feel on this board if DiMaio hit Tenderness the very same way.

In the honnest opinion of the refs that were doing the game they deemed it cheap enough to not just give a penalty, but eject the player.

I think it was a clean hit, just bad timing. If I remember the video correctly, DiMaio sorta lunged (for the puck I assume) which brought his head right in between Latendresse's shoulder and the boards.
I don't think that just because the refs ejected Latendresse qualifies it as being a dirty hit either. Nine times out of ten when a guy gets rocked against the boards like that, they're going to eject the player who threw the hit.

Man what's with our prospects ending players' careers?

Always hate to see a player go down like that. That's hockey though...its the voluntary risk that players take when stepping on the ice..

There's no elbow whatsoever. You see the elbow in the end 'cause it just follows the motion.....

DiMaio is just using the "kid thing" 'cause he can say that Lats had something to prove. Is DiMaio saying that veterans don't do those kinds of stuff 'cause they have nothing to prove in preseason. I just have tons of exemples of nasty hits laid by veterans in preseason.....If so, would he have said the same thing if it had been Guerin who would have laid that hit?????

Exactly,
I'm not saying that he deserved to have an injury like this, but the hit was totally clean. It's just that "the kid" did ended completly his check. So you don't need to blame anybody on that exept DiMaio himself for having his head down with the puck.

Not clean IMO. Latendresse may be popular and important to the Habs' future, but must we excuse everything he does because of that?

We don't have to excuse anything since it was a LEGAL hit! Just watch it again and you'll see. It's body on body, no elbow there.

I did watch it again. People see things differently. Wasn't Latendresse thrown out of the game?

Yeah.... but that doesn't mean anything. Begin was thrown out of 2 games in a row last year for clean hits remember?

The video is horrible, you dont get a very good angle at all. Using that clip to deem that hit clean or not isnt an easy thing to do.

There were two refs at this game who saw this hit, it was in the center of play. Obviously they saw it was dirty because they ejected him from the game for it, if it was clean or even remotley close to clean they could have just slapped him with a 2 min minor.

That clip is poor, I trust the refs who did the games judgement (they saw it live) and they obviously saw that it wasnt clean.

Listen nobody wishes anyone to get hurt (unless its Tucker), but wake up naysayers that is a clean hit and ultimately a bad call. His elbow is tucked in his body, and he hits a guy who is 5'10. DiMaio wasnt ready and basically paid the price. If that hits illegal then Scott Stevens should have been booted after every open ice hit he ever made.

DiMaio turned his back to Latendresse wishing to not get hit. Turning your face toward the board is a great way for players to avoid physical contact.

And yeah, that was taught to me in a hockey camp once.

I'm not basing my opinion on this video but the one I saw on TV, which was very clear and easy to judge. And I'm not even a big fan of Latendresse so don't think I'm defending him for that reason.

it's pretty simple:

no-concussion = nobody *****ing

concussion = everybody who's not a habs fan complains (well mostly anyways)

**** happens. if the league decides it was a dirty hit, then they would punish Lats for it. Clearly the league did'nt deem this a dirty hit therefore did not punish Lats.

DiMaio is just trying to find a shoulder to cry on.

Time to move on.
