Leafs fans have been unbearable lately. Phaneuf and Gardiner are gods apparently. If Bozak was better than Gagner then why is Nonis just cutting bait? LOL leafs fans.

Not surprising given that MacTavish probably doesn't want to have to find 4 new centres this summer... now he'll only need 3.

My favourite is when they say they'd be in the finals if they'd just have beat the Bruins. Uh, no.

Will be interesting to see how they do over 82 games next year although going and getting Bernier for a minimal package was a good move. Can't hate on Nonis but the fans can be tough to take.

No offence to Gager but he simply isn't worth 5 million a year. I was a big Horcoff fan before he signed tht crazy contract and I'm going to say the same thing I said back then. If he signs for anything more then 4.5 million then we are overpaying. He might get more on the open market but we just simply can't afford to be paying him that much when he isn't a complete enough player defensively.

I would love to see him back in an Oilers uniform but this contract could hurt us long term.

I see him getting a similar amount to Jakub Voracek at 4.25 million.

What would RFA compensation be if we let Sam walk at say 5 mil?

Eberle at 6m probably doesn't help the oilers negotiations. I could see him do a 1 yr deal at 4.5m

When did Gagner ever come close to scoring 76pts in the nhl?

I think Gagner's true value as hockey player in terms of $$$'s is $3.75 million being a fairly one dimensional offensive center, with not much in the way of physicality or ability to win faceoffs and being a little below average defensively. He is still improving every year and I think he would be good value at $4.25 on a long deal (overprice early but underpriced closer to the end of the deal), $4.5 is a little bit of a gamble but probably fair, at $4.75 he becomes a little too pricey for what he currently brings and what I foresee him bringing in the future. At the $4.75 price point I would look into trading him and trying to sign a UFA center who has a bit more polish on him. Although the UFA would probably cost a bit more the added benefit of getting a good asset from trading Gagner should mitigate some of the detriment of less cap flexibility.

It all seems to mesh together. Some big news MacT "won't" release till the cup has been awarded, these low ball Gagner negotiations all point to him being moved to the Blackhawks.

But don't you realize how hard it is to improve other areas in your team that are really lacking if you are not willing to give up anything meaningful from the areas of strength you have? That's one thing I don't really understand. It's one thing to draft BPA but if your key positions are flooded with the same type of players and you're not willing to make moves to fill out the roster properly, it's not going to end well.

I don't think players' like Gagner or Pääjärvi values have been much higher in the past than they are now so it would be perfect time to ship them out and actually improve the team. Just my opinion though...

There's no way in hell we're going to find a better 2nd line center than Gagner. I'm happy to keep him.

He's played for us through a ton of brutal seasons without loosing his commitment to improving.

Nobody should have been shocked over what he accomplished last year. More like we should've been a little surprised that it took him that long to have a season like that. I think it would be fair to suggest that he was rushed into the NHL.

He was believed to have a very high level of potential when he was drafted. Now that he's fulfilling his potential we'd be nuts to not try to lock him up for 5+ years. I'd be so excited if we managed to sign him for 5M per year.

Since when is an inconsistent one dimensional scorer "low balled" with 4.5 mill. That extra mill is what is going to allow us to have a decent third line center to make up for his defensive lapses.

I'd only be happy with 5 x 4.75 if it doesn't include a NTC/NMC.

If revenues don't jump up and the cap with it, it's very likely one of those 5 1st round drafted forwards will need to be moved in the next 18 months.

Here are players who are similar in production that have signed deals within the last few years. I don't think there are many players in the 5+ section that Gagner holds up to, so i think it is safe to say he should come in under 5 per.

5 Million +: Seguin 6@5.75M, Skinner 6@5.75M, O'Reilly 2@5M, Benn 5@5.25M, Zajac 8@5.75M, Neal 6@5M, Grabovski 5@5.5M, Lupul 5@5.25M, E.Kane 5@5.25M.

4-5 Million: Marchand 4@4.5M, Ruutu 4@4.75M, Umberger 5@4.6M, Cole 4@4.5M, Versteeg 4@4.4M, Fleschmann 4@4.5M, Pacioretty 6@4.5M (steal), Hornqvist 5@4.25M, Callahan 3@4.275M, Voracek 4@4.25M, Hartnell 6@4.75M, Oshie 5@4.175M, Backes 5@4.5M, Purcell 3@4.5M, JVR 4@4.25M, Burrows 4@4.5M, Laich 6@4.5M.

4 Million or less: Parenteau 4@4M, Williams 4@3.65M, Okposo 5@2.8M, Turris 5@3.5M, Simmons 6@4M, Perron 4@3.8M.

I am predicting 4@4.5 Million for Gagner. A bit higher than we would like but he does have quite a lot of leverage.

Gagner is a decent complimentry player, and I hope he's paid as such. Anything over $4.5M is an overpayment.

I think this is a ploy by the Oil ... make it look like he's signable then move him ASAP. I think he'll be moved before the draft. The Oil GMs have incredible success getting more than market value for players traded (i.e Penner). No different here.

There are rumors of him going to OTT for Zhinger ... that would be a nice move but EDM should ask for a little more. Don't be surprised if PHI gets into this to move Courturier or Simmonds. PHI is desperate too.

Gagner is a small center who may have some scoring upside but we have lots of scoring upside at center. We need big strong wingers. Moving him to Winnipeg and getting Winnipeg's 2nd pick and Wheeler could work. He'd look great with NH and Lander. The GM there is abysmal.

I don't think he should get a penny over 4 mil

but he will end up getting something like 4.75.. because we always overpay.
