Reading Royals (Munce/Fukufuji)

FYI, the Kings ECHL team in Reading, PA began their season this weekend with a pair of losses to the Trenton Titans.

Yutaka Fukufuji gave up 4 goals in a 4-3 home loss on Saturday.

Ryan Munce gave up 5 goals in a 5-3 road loss on Sunday.

A whole lot of suspects on the Reading roster, but the King noteable, Greg Hogeboom has an assist after two games. He did have 9 unsuccessful shots in the 5-3 loss last night.

Awards:
I like to call it "organizational depth".

Because that's all it ever will be.

That wasn't the beginning of the season - it was the pre-season, and I wouldn't read too much into the pre-season. At least two first line players were not on the ice so the try-out players could get a chance, and we had three guys called up already. The biggest factor was probably the fact that the ECHL is instituting the NHL's new enforcement of holding/hooking/interference this year - and this was the first chance for the refs and the players to experience it in live action. The parade to the penalty box was non-stop. For the first 8 minutes of Saturday's game there was no 5 on 5. The first penalty was called on the opening faceoff and it never stopped. At one point Trenton had a penalty delayed by about 1:30 because they were already down to three men when they were called for holding again. Don't take this as a complaint or an excuse, because I think it will be good for the game and the players in the long run - just that you can't really evaluate anything from these two games, except the fact that everyone has a lot of learning to do - and if we want to win during the first two months of the season our PP needs to be a lot better.

The puck drop for real on Friday night in Trenton, and Saturday in Reading with a home and home vs the Titans.

Fuji and Munce both looked OK - a little rusty from not seeing live action for a couple weeks. Although I don't see either one being a real NHL prospect in the next couple years either. The rumor on Hogeboom is that LA/Manch feels he has developed as far as he is going to, and they don't see any more upside - so he is basically in Reading until his contract is up, (or a rash of injuries gets him a callup). Don't know if it is true, but we are glad to have him - he was easily one of the best players in the league when he was here last year.

Wouldn't surprise me, he hasn't done much.
