But the article was written before edmonton hired him and you said edmonton poached him from us?

To each their own i guess. I suppose dallas poached ruff from us to who was also interviewed and gillis spoke highly of friday.

I might be missing something here but I'm not sure what difference it makes when the article was written? Either way, it's speculation.

It's quite possible Ruff was poached. I have no idea. From what I've read on here, Botch said Stevens was the guy. Now that hasn't exactly panned out has it.

Anyway....back to Tanev.

Speculation? I guess but no more then your own.

The reason the article date matters is because you said

"Of course reports are going to come out saying the Canucks didn't want Eakins anyway, that's what you say when you don't get what you want or may have wanted.."

I simply pointed out they were saying this well before edmonton hired him that he was not getting a job offer from us. I also dont know why someone like botch would be looking out for the best interest of the canucks.

But anyway I agree back to tanev.

What I'm trying to ask is: will this young 'core' be good enough to compete for Cups like our current core did 2 years ago, and would it be better to trade a guy like Tanev if a team is willing to 'pony-up' a 1st round pick?

OK, I see where you're going with that now. Point taken.

Seemingly not, but our current core was, at a time, not projected to be able to take over the WCE. I would possibly trade Tanev for a first, depending on where the pick is and who is still left on the board. I think if there are no standouts, a late first would not be good enough.

Speaking of tanev seen this earlier. Not surprised most people on here where shocked when his dad was going to represent him.

If the pick was high enough to get Ristolainen (sp?) or Morin, would you then trade Tanev?

A good move by Christopher.

Wonder if Gillis low-balled him

Since PK Subban gets $2.875 million (bridge contract like the one Tanev will get) and won the Norris trophy with Tanev's last contract being at 900K - the "gap" between the two parties can't be that large.

Also look at del zotto 2.2 last year after signing as an rfa last year and he put up way more points.

Bump. It's becoming more and more apparent that Tanev is the best defender on this team. I love Hammer, but Tanev is money. Rarely ever has a bad game.

Then we take those those 4 first round picks and laugh all the way to the draft, 4 years in a row.

But with Tanev on their team we'll be picking at 30 every year!! Sign him now!

$1,682,195 - $3,364,391 Second Round Pick

Gillis will match all of those offers instantly.

$3,364,392 - $5,046,585 First and Third Round Picks

Gillis will probably match up to 4.25 - otherwise we get a 1st and 3rd in 2015. Also, think about which teams are offering him.. the top ten that year is great. It's not just the top 3..

Tanev has been our best D-man for a while now, peeps was just to scared to say it earlier on. He has been bailing out Hamhuis all season.

Not with Steve Mason as their long term goaltending solution.

The Flyers looks to be a bubble team for the foreseeable future, and if even miss the playoffs once or twice, that's two lottery picks PLUS two mid-late picks for Tanev.

You'd have to be out of your mind not to take it.

Yeah if it's a mediocre team and someone offered more than 4.25 I'd think about letting him go. You never know what can happen with some teams. They can just implode. It's so deep next year.

Not really a good move unless your dad is a lawyer or professional mediator/negotiator, etc. Parents are usually to attached to the player to provide the kind of unemotional, objective advice that an agent provides.

If any of Buffalo, Calgary, Nashville, FLA, NJ, Carolina want to pay 4.25 +, we should just bend over and take it. Their problems are scoring, and then them adding a defenseman at that price is not a good idea. But if they want to, it's just them giving us a top ten pick.

Those teams would have to be completely asinine to send an offer sheet to Tanev that would result in them losing their 2015 1st and a 3rd.

It would be pretty hilarious if Nashville of all teams decide to throw Tanev an offer sheet.

They'd average 1 GA per game, with Rinne putting up something like 0.945svp, and probably score like 70-80 goals for the entire season.
