Not good for the Avs at all. The way I look at is:
1st overall for 4th+Ellis/Blum+3rd
Stastny+2nd for Forsberg
I think it would cost you at least Forsberg+2nd for Stastny & that isn't enough for the 1st imo.
I think the 1st overall is costing the Preds at least the 4th overall+Forsberg/Ekholm+2nd, maybe more.
I think it's a decent deal if you take out the second. I think Forsberg for Stastny is a pretty good deal (maybe Preds add a lower pick too?) and Ellis + 3rd to move up three spots isn't bad. That said, I'm sure other teams would come up with a much stronger offer.
this is a bad deal no matter what team you root for. Stastny is overvalued in Colorado the same way Legwand is in Nashville by its fans. They can't trade him for what he is worth because no GM will pay it. They will pay .50 on the dollar, esp if they know Col is gonna take Mackinnon.
For nashville, Forsberg is a top 5 draft talent that fell for whatever reason. him plus the 4th is ludicrous. Makes no sense to trade 2 top prospects who are considered elite prospects (by many) for one. Stastny plus the first for 4 and Forsberg I think would be turned down by Nashville, because the upside of Forsberg is a sexier proposition than Stastny's steady eddy act. There is not much difference in call between 1 and 5, so overpaying is plain dumb. Give us The 4th plus Blum/Ellis and a later pick is fair value judging by history. The other picks are semantics.
1- we don't want or need Stastny's huge contract\production
2- We're not giving up Filip Forsberg
3- It's up in the air if Mackinnon is even better than Barkov, so why spend all those assets when we could keep all of it...and draft a player that's still going to be a franchise impact?
It's one thing if you're picking 12th and you want to get into that top 4...but that's too much to move up 3 spots and take a player that doesn't really fit our needs.
