Yup, we're a far way from these two teams.

How are we going to make up the gap?

- UFA's? Have a hard time signing big time players, and have to overpay for regular players.

- Trades? Don't have an abundance of assets to give out (our farm is finally shoring up, it'll take a few years before we have something to show for it)

- Draft? Don't think we're bad enough to pick in the lotteries. Have to rely on Timmins pulling some miracles.

It's gonna take a few years for us to reach that level.

Bryan Bickell is gonna look good in red, white, and blue next year. Can't wait.

Hopefully next year. He has it in him. Need to give him some help, though and fix the damn D.

"Being a balanced" team is not the Blackhawks was. They have 3 freakin franchise forward. If Galchenyuk becomes as good a Toews, Hossa OR Kane, it's going to be great. There's nothing else in the system even remotely close to that.

This Habs team, if unchanged, is challenging for 10-12 in the East next season.
Tryna act like Galchenyuk at 18 isn't better then Toews and Kane were at that age?

First of all, I disagree about your last statement. The Habs are a playoff bubble team. I'm not saying I'm proud of this but I think far too many people overestimate the strength of some of our rivals based on the team's average height.

Second, the Hawks are pretty much better than the Habs in every way. I won't get into the goalie argument expect to say Price has more "talent" (what that means is debatable), they have a far better first line, better depth scorers, better grinders, better defenders (I think Subban is better than Keith but the only other Habs defenders who'd maybe make the Hawks as bottom pairing guys are Markov and MAYBE Gorges).

So when I say they have better balance I mean they are good at everything, yes their forwards are top-heavy but that says more about how good their top line is than it does about their depth.

This draft will be important. Either we keep our picks and draft well, or we trade some picks for some pieces. I think we're in good shape as long as MB doesn't screw it up (see DD deal). We'll have a lot of top end young guys in our system who can either play for us or be dealt in deals for better, more established players.

Boston is still a good team. A team that I feel we match up well against but a good team nonetheless. I'm not being respectful or kind when I say it. In fact, the way this played out, that a good team did a massive choke like that for this game and to end their season makes it better.

With the mentality we had for those last 20 years? No.

We have no balance whatsoever in our lineup. Those teams have great balance. In fact, Pittsburgh, Boston, LA and Chicago are 4 complete teams with more grit, speed and size than us. We have to wake up and do something about filling the holes that made us lose. And NO, talent and offensive instincts wasn't the main reason why we lost. An inapt defense and our incapacity to score any kind of trash goal did.

How ?

They're constantly in the playoffs. They've won a cup recently and just made it to the finals again.

What have we done ? Have a hot goalie and timely scoring. When that fizzled out we got our ***** kicked.

Or because we beat them in the regular season ?

We're potentially on the path to be as good, if not better, but right now we're not.

The playoffs is a game of matchups. The best team doesn't always win. This year they did, but it's not always the case. Let's not act like this is the norm and we need to pattern ourselves after the best team in the league or we're going nowhere.

What are you trying to say here ? Don't try and change our ways and stop being small, weak midgets ?

The collapse at the 40 games mark imo wasn't just bad luck. It was something that we've seen times and times again in the past.

The main weakness on this team still is the defense and our ability to score trash goals. Top-end talent won't come through trade and the UFA market... it comes through good drafting. In that aspect, we'll have to trust Timmins and let him improve his "boom" ratio (only Subban and Gallagher should be put in the boom record IMHO). That being said, our best bet is to fill what we can fill with the UFA market in the meantime... all that while getting rid of the deadweight.

Been clamoring for the Habs to try and get this guy for 2 years now... He's gonna get paid real good. Unfortunately, it might not be with us...

I'm going to repost my question here if that's alright:

Where do you rank Kane, Toews, Keith, and Hossa in regards to both this generation and all time?

I think he's had more booms than just PK and Gallagher.
