Patrick Kane

Does Kane winning the cup for the second time increase the odds of him coming to Buffalo once his contract is up? By the time he is a free agent Buffalo will likely be a team that is trending up and we will likely have enough cap space to throw all the money he could ever want at him.

It neither increases nor decreases

Pretty much this. If anything, it makes Chicago that much more likely to keep him.

No bearing. If he wants to come home, he'll sign with Buffalo. If he wants to win more Cups, he'll stay in Chicago. I think it'll be that simple. (My guess...Chicago locks him up with an extension soon after they can start negotiating one.)

That took just about as long as expected.

Makes it less likely, IMO. The more he wins in Chicago, the less reason he has to leave to come to a struggling franchise.

The only way we're an up and coming team in 2015 is if we raid the top of the draft. Otherwise, I don't expect to see us seeded higher than #7 at best, and probably closer to #10, anytime soon.

That said, Kane has some of the most well known hometown pride in the league, so he could always set aside self-interest.

What do 60% of Buffalo's youth do....Take a better job in a better city and never look back..Would you move from one of the best cities in the world(that he is a star in) and move to Buffalo if had a choice??

They can negotiate whenever they want.

They just can't file an extension until the last year of his deal.

Hopefully he'll get so wasted at the cup parade that Chicago will be forced to trade him.

Jesus. Let it be! And prefixing this with Speculation is silly. The guy is under contract right now and it is pointless talking about it. Both teams will be in different places when he does become a free agent, IF he ever does become one. Maybe he likes winning Cups and re-signs.

Talk about putting the cart before the horse...

Winning cups in Chicago vs. coming to Buffalo in the next few years?

Yea, easy choice.

People leave the area for better job opportunities, Kane will be paid top dollar unlike the "60%" of kids that leave. I'm not saying it is highly likely but I do think he may test the market and if he does I would have to think we would be one of the major players for him.

I'd say it decreases, but it's not like it was ever that much of a possibility. Too bad we didn't have the assets, the balls, or the Pegula to trade for the first overall in 2007.

I'm sure it would've been "impossible."

Blofan4life is Kane's agent. Well known fact on these boards. Been representing him since 2006 in his junior days.

Kane probably has some semblance of privacy in Chicago because its a huge city and not everyone cares about hockey. Buffalo would be the epitome of living in a fish bowl. I wouldn't want to deal with it if I were him.

Hopefully he continues to spend summers in WNY and spends some money being a do-gooder with local charities/hockey programs.

In the end, that's more important anyway.

He has no reason to leave Chicago. I bet they sign him and Toews to identical contracts and they win at least 1 more cup together.

No but I been around family members plenty of times and he loves Chicago and his teammates. He likes the separation of work of play he gets with living here but working in Chicago.

I love him, so I will always pray for that. He'd look so sick in a Sabres jersey.

They will probably lock up Kane and Toews on the same day in a year. It would be very telling if Toews is locked up but Kane isnt. The speculation could begin then. But I doubt it. Chicago is his 2nd home and a great sports city. He wont be leaving.

But could you imagine if he wins another cup and then decides to come to Buffalo, you know there would be a welcome parade. We do welcome parades like no other city. Hopefully one day we do a championship parade.

If he ever managed to get to free agency, I have no doubt Pegula would top any offer and do whatever it took to bring him back to his home town. But, I do doubt that he ever becomes a free agent.

Not sure why Kane would leave a good thing.

But I hope him winning a 2nd cup and MVP will shut up some folks on this board who don't want him on the Sabres. The kid is a winner.
