Toews only started to light it up late in the finals, didn't do a lot the first 3 rounds.
Chara was out of position on a lot of goals, just last night there are 2 glaring examples, gets caught in between on a pich on Toews goal and let his man to go in no man's land on tieing goal. Being big and hacking guys in front doesn't make you a "beast".
I think his positioning was pretty good. The Hawks wised up and changed their gamplan specifically around him. He's the key guy so they triple teamed him. Toews was out there in his grill all the time and they had Bickell smacking him whenever he could along with the defensemen pounding on him when they could.
Yeah, they beat him. But they had to make a lot of adjustments to be able to do it. The only thing more impressive than the punishment Chara took was the punishment he dished out.
Being big and hacking guys in front of the net actually does make you a beast. It's a ****ing hard job to do (none of our guys do it) and Chara lead them very far into the playoffs. He got tons of rebounds (saved a goal last night for sure) and made life very difficult on the Hawks.
Yeah, the Hawks wore him down but their a great team. Once Toews finally figured out that he had to stand in front of the net no matter what the series was over. But the comments that Chara looked old or bad are silly. Props to the Hawks on making the adjustments to win.
