Conn Smythe winners

Is Patrick Kane worst CS winner of all time? 22GP 19P seems very poor for purely offensive player.

Only going by post 2005 lockout, Niedermayer's wasn't much better. I thought Pronger was more important to that cup, I wonder if the suspension had a big impact on the voting.

It's really just that it was a balanced team effort. Heck even in the 'Hawks 2010 cup win some thought Kane or Keith deserved it over Toews.

I'll bet in many years down the road, those who didn't watch the series will wonder why Crawford didn't win the Conn Smythe, I mean in numbers alone (especially when compared to the 'Hawks forwards) he stacks up well with the past two winners:

2011 Tim Thomas: 16 wins - 9 losses - 1.98 GAA - .940 SV%
2012 Jon Quick: 16 wins - 4 losses - 1.41 GAA - 9.46 SV%
2013 Corey Crawford: 16 wins - 7 losses - 1.84 GAA - .932 SV%

But we did watch the games, so yeah...

The only other one that immediately comes to mind was Nieuwendyk. Niedermayer probably didn't deserve his either, but at least that post-season there was a number of equally strong candidates.

First time a wingers won it since 1995, and then he's instantly considered one of the lesser Conn Smythe winners of all time.

Well this only helps re-affirm that I think you can really go with a bunch of 2nd line wingers, as long as you have good players at the more important positions.

Really tough choice this year though. Keith would have been an option, I didnt think Crawford deserved it though.

Although he only scored 2 game winning goals, I think that all of his goals were pretty important.

I think he didn't deserve it this year. It was a bad choice imo. They should of gave it to Bickell. He was there all series.

That would have been an interesting choice. Same # of goals, only two less points. But far more physical, which is a huge factor in long playoff series (85 hits to Kanes 3 hits in playoffs).

Kane's a heck of a player but there where other members of the team I'd give the Conn Smythe to instead of him (Notably Crawford, Keith and possibly Sharp)

Yea, but Kane was always against the top pairing, Bickell often against the third (at least in the first three rounds). Not really a fair comparison.

Who would you suggest should of won the CS instead of Nieuwendyk? Langenbrunner? Nieuwendyk simply destroyed every team in each series.

I thought he was a decent pick. Toews and Niedermayer are the worst in recent memory. I thought both were very undeserving of it and there were plenty of better options.

Giguere was. I just don't get why you would give it to a losing team's player. How can you be the MVP when you're not valuable enough to win the cup?

I didn't think he was a poor choice, given the options. The Hawks were a team that won by committee, so any choice this year was bound to be less dominant than your average Conn Smythe winner.

IMO Keith should have 2 Smythe's, but Kane was dynamite in the finals which is probably why he got it. But he also deserves it

No cause I forgot to include Hextall and others ''winners'' in my sentence. Hint: yes I'm serious and surprised one wouldn't understand my point.

Lol at this entire thread. I see people are already trying to discredit what he accomplished. The Hawks had a huge team effort this year, that's why there isn't one clear-cut winner. Crawford, Kane, Keith were all deserving, only one can win though. I didn't realize leading your team in points and scoring 7 goals in the last 8 games coming down the stretch was suddenly so horrible.

You can be the most valuable player without winning. If the other team as a whole is much better, and you're the only player keeping your team in it, I see nothing wrong with giving the Conn Smythe to a player on the losing team.

Pretty weak Conn Smythe field overall in these playoffs, IMO. Krejci looked like a potential runaway winner early, but he seemed to stop contributing consistently after round two.
