They may care about wasting cap space. The cap recapture rule would impact them if the took on Luongo.

Could you show me the dime-a-dozen list of wingers with 30 ES goals over the past two seasons?

you lost me... i thought it takes skill to score goals?

your comments seem to completely ignore the facts that were laid out for you in a previous thread regarding Read.

Braydon Coburn makes a bit of sense for Buffalo.

He potentially a good partner for either Ehrhoff or Myers

Perhaps a deal like:

To Philly: Miller (50% salary retention), McNabb
To Buffalo: Read, Coburn, 2nd

Buffalo takes on a bit in salary, improves D, makes room on the Roster for Enroth/Hackett combo

I'll tell you that Flynn and Read had nearly identical GPG this year. They are the same level. If that's the type of addition you want to make for the guy that has been the face of your franchise for almost a decade, gross.

I can't believe the amount of Flyers fans on the Flyers board who want nothing to do with Ryan Miller. Maybe I'm just a biased Sabres fan, but there are few goalies in the NHL who I'd rather have between the pipes..

Coburn is kind of redundant (Myers)

As someone who didn't watch much of Philly over the past two years, how many of those 30 ESG were 06-07 Vanek ESG-esque?

guess who has more ES Goals over the last 2 years... Read vs Vanek
(The answer is Read)

Read - 28 in 123 = .227
Vanek - 26 in 114 = .228

Read played the 4th highest QOC of any forward in Philly... nice assumption though. He also was used in practically every situation... from 1st line with Giroux to 2nd line with Schenn to shutdown with Couturier.

2nd in ES ice time forward (Giroux 1st)
2nd unit PK forward

Read > Vanek

You just showed why the numbers you are using don't mean squat. Read is a plug.

I don't know that you want to have 2 pairs featuring "that" guy...

im not opposed to going after Coburn... but maybe in a larger deal that brings Couturier back, by putting Myers on the table?

look, you prepared both arguments.
"Read scored behind the top lines"
"Read scored because he's on the top line"

nice... clearly no agenda here

Probably because he always seems to get lit up when we play the Flyers. Same thing with the Pens.

I'm more impressed with ES goal scoring than seeing a dozen bounce in off of someone's arse that's planted in front of the crease during a PP

Add an ounce of context to your numbers and I'll be impressed, Jame. I asked for an explanation and you offered none save metrics for a shortened season that accounts for roughly a third of the full sample. I'm curious as to whether you actually watched much more than I did.

I guess I see a different dman. A big very physical dman thats a very good shot blocker and a solid defender thats been used against the other teams top guys. But he has a limited offensive game.

I don't see much of Myers in Coburn

I think we're past the point of dictating to teams what type of return we should get for Miller, or Vanek for that matter. He's not coming back to the Sabres after this year, and everyone and their mother knows it. Take the best offer you can get, whatever that may be, and move on.

Having watched both players, I think Flynn/Read is an apt comparison. considering the differing contexts, I don't think the stats are different enough to warrant the shocked response the comparison received. The main difference is that one of them plays for a team whose fans err on the side of undervaluing all their players and the other plays for a team whose fans do the opposite.

And I agree that i'd hope for a better return for Miller, not necessarily value wise, but something maybe a little less redundant. I think i'd just ask for the 11th pick. But if Read is the best we could do, then i'd be glad to have him.

I also still don't agree that Miller and/or Vanek are definitely not coming back. Things appear that way, but much much crazier things have happened than two players deciding not to uproot their lives to stay with a strong organization.
