I hope we just get a UFA goalie on a short term deal so we can't stop hearing it from our neighbors up North (Toronto and Vancouver) about how we absolutely have to send them Couturier for one of their stud goalies (Reimer or Luongo). Halfway through day 1 of the Bryz buy-out and they're already pissing me off. Just make it to day 1 of free agency without doing somthing boneheaded again Homer, you know like acquiring the rights to a guy and then givin him a ridiculous contract (oh wait, forget about Streit), don't do it again I mean.

Ah. So if that means what I think it means, we can forget about winning a Cup within the next decade after we blow the whole ****ing thing up again.

I hope it means something else.

Probably in addition to the Schenns, Couturier, Mason, Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Timonen, Lavi, Pronger, Rinaldo, Streit, and the Wells Fargo Center.

Honestly...

A wild ride at this point WOULD actually be him doing nothing but letting us stew over that nothing for the next 3 weeks.

I doubt even the US government has better torture methods.

Out of context.

I just listened to him on WIP, and what he said was it will be a wild ride around the nhl the next 10 days with the amnesty buyouts and teams needing to shed salary

That sounds a little more realistic. I think we're staying pat and signing some free-agents.

I think that 11th pick gets used on a defenseman, and we're going to need wingers with or without Read gone.

Let's say Coburn + Read + 11th might get you Ryan, but is that really wise?

I'm still of the mentality that Schenn needs to be moved outside.

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Couturier - Simmonds
Horton/Clarkson - Laughton - Read
Rinaldo - Hall - Talbot
Rosehill

Timonen - Schenn
Streit - Coburn
Gustafsson - Grossmann
Gervais

Mason
Emery

That lineup looks pretty strong to me.

If we keep Schenn down the middle, we either need to expect Raffl to play competitively on a 3rd line in the NHL or sign two legitimate wingers this offseason plus a back-up goaltender. You need three if you end up trading Read+ for another 1st.

Feasibly we could do it. Our options?

Horton, Jagr, Iginla, Clowe, Clarkson, Elias, Gagne, MacArthur, Penner, Zubrus, Filppula, Raymond...

It's a good year to need wingers. It might be best to maximize our assets by trading Read now, but we need to keep in mind if we're signing some wingers to multi-year deals that Giroux, Schenn, and Couturier will all need raises next year.

Raffl may just be our go-to.

Or Coburn + Read + 11th for Ryan...

(Ryan) - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell - Schenn - Simmonds
(Clarkson) - Couturier - Raffl
Rinaldo - Laughton - Talbot
Rosehill

Timonen - Schenn
Streit - Grossmann
Gustafsson - Huskins/Scuderi/Ference/Roszival

Mason
Emery

Realistically, starting with the opening of free-agency, Holmgren is going to have a metric-****ton of options.

Or we could just re-sign Gagne to a 1 year deal and re-assess next offseason.

I love Couturier, but for Ryan, I think it's an easier decision than most. Ryan not only has close ties here and certainly wants to play here, but he's a proven scorer at his age. 31+ goals and 57+ points over the past 4 seasons (not including the shortened season). I could see him in a new environment, and one he wants to be in, be a catalyst for something huge.

He definitely means league wide that it's going to be a crazy week. The buyout period, draft, and free agency are all jammed into the next two weeks. But Homer is a maniac, so I wouldn't be surprised by anything now that he has nearly $10,000,000 in cap space to play with.

Well on the radio interview on WIP Homer did say Bryz buyout was a business decision based on cap hit. He mentioned Cout's, Giroux, and "young Schenn" by name for who he needs to re-sign. Not saying he is out, but it is widely believed Homer and management really like him.

Ryan will be entering his decline years soon, if he hasn't already. Couturier hasn't even hit his prime yet. Considering we have no idea what the goalie situation is and the coach might even be changing some time soon, trading Couturier for Ryan is a bad idea. We aren't in win-now mode, and that's a win-now move. Homer needs to be building for future success.

Edit: Either way, you need at least one center who's very good defensively if you want a Cup. If we trade Couturier, we no longer have one of those. So, it's not even a good win-now move even if we were in position for a Cup run.

Let me make this very clear in the most concise way possible.

COUTURIER is worth more to this team than RYAN.

We should not consider Couturier for Ryan, let alone Couturier+. Couturier will provide roughly Ryan's offense while playing elite shut-down defense (assuming Ryan's offense is in the 65-70 range and Couturier's is in the 55-65 range.)

There. I've made my peace. Let the chips fall where they may.

However, Ryan would look dead sexy on Couturier's wing with Schenn or Simmonds.

This. Thank you. We have a shutdown center who is only going to get better and he's not even of legal drinking age. What is Ryan going to do for us? Score more goals? When has that been a problem for our team?

Let's look at our division, and as Beef pointed out, previous Cup winners. We're gonna need Couturier big time. This core's got a nice window. Let's not go ****ing that up just yet.

I was saying in terms of player for player, not including the team, Ryan would be the better acquisition. But as we are, we need as much D as we can get.

IMO and using patience...

Lets starts with the 4th line (Mcginn, Talbot, Rinaldo, Rosehill, Hall)
-so beside Hall we have decent 4th line option already sign

3rd line (gagne, laughton, Clarkson)
-I hope they sign Gagne to something between 2-2.5m, then check 3rd line RW UFA. Clarkson at 3.75m is a little overpaid but he bring size, toughness and a nice two way player. Brunner and Larose are to small.

2nd Line (Schenn, Couts, Simmonds)
- No-brainer, Schenn and simmonds have two different style of scoring and couts can use his high hockey sense to complete the line.

1st line (Hartnell, Giroux, Voracek)
- Another good mixed line with grit, hockey sense, scoring abiliy and speed.

For the D (Timonen-??????) (streit-Schenn) (Gus-Grossmann)
-The player missing can be add with all the asset available: Coburn,Read,Mez and draft pick (not the 1st 2013).

Goaltenders (Mason, ????)
- Add one with UFA (luongo at 3.7m) and let Mason win his next contract.

So 9.5m to add a young #1-2 D.
Remember Offersheet can be a way to go with 9.5m available and you can trade coburn read mez for draft pick!!!
