Does Anaheim have the worst defense in the league?

According to HF?

I'm a ducks fan and our best defensemen, Fowler and Beauchemin, are not on the top 10, 20, or 50 of any list ranking defensemen. If they are the best on the Ducks, and they don't even make any list, the others must be considered really bad here.

I'm just wondering if posters in general here think the Ducks have the worst defense in the league?

The Ducks have a great defense. Ther individuals not being considered elite doesnt count against the unit as a whole. And I agree that Beau should get more consideration in the best defensive thread, but still people know the Ducks have a good team.

Oilers, Hurricanes, Lightning & Avalanche come to my mind before the Ducks. There's probably more.

Colorado comes to mind.

I dont think you can put Anaheim as one of the worst defence in the league when they were 3rd in standings in the NHL.

Edit: Maybe Calgary (without Bouwmeester it doesnt look good on paper)

on paper the ducks d is pretty uninspiring. but they play well where it matters, the scoresheet.

No AINEC

There is your problem.

Ducks are no where near the bottom.

Surprised Calgary hasn't been mentioned yet.

Giordano is our best d-man. And he played like crap last year.

Colorado had 6 replacement level players on their blueline at one point.

Colorado AINEC. They have legitimately no good defensemen.

The Oilers is the worst by a lot. It's hard to believe that Colton Teubert is too bad to make that team

Teubert is really really bad though... When Corey Potter plays better than you, you are barely an AHL'er.

One of the worst defencemen in the NHL for sure.

You realize the / means either/or, not the combination, right?

Beauchemin just had a hell of a year. But he shouldn't be your best guy.

The Avs have the worst defense in the NHL. The next tier of bad includes the Oilers, Flames, and Lightning.

While on the subject of Anaheim defensemen, does Vatanen start the season with the Ducks?

You're a Ducks fan and you're asking this question? Do we have a great defense - no but it's certainly among the top half in the NHL.

With no changes in the offseason this is what we have next season:

Beauchemin is a great #2 guy - he played like a #1 guy last season but it's unknown if he can sustain his offensive play and be considered a #1 guy going forward.

Fowler is already a good #2-3 guy - he took massive steps forward in terms of defensive play last season and while he did not produce much he generated a lot of chances. He did struggle quite a bit after returning from his concussion but he did take steps forward last season.

Souray when healthy is a good #4 guy who can play heavier minutes if needed but it will wear him down over the course of the season.

Allen is a good #5 guy who has limitations but by the end of the year looked good for us.

Sbisa has potential but is still a third pairing guy at this point. He struggled last year and his hockey IQ is a bit lacking but when he plays within his abilities he's shown he can be a good #4-5 guy.

Vatanen will likely take the 6th spot - he should be fine playing on the 1st PP unit and sheltered 5 on 5 minutes.

There are far worse defense groups going into next season than ours. We could definitely use another top 4 defenseman (preferably a top pairing guy) but so could most teams in the NHL.

Beauchemin finished in the top five for the Norris Trophy. Anaheim has a defense that Edmonton, Calgary and Colorado can only dream about.
