Does anyone know the current number of players in the NHL that signed contracts from college. I know there were quite a few this year that signed contracts with NHL teams.

Signing an off-season NHL contract and actually playing in the NHL are, more often than not, two different things. I can check it out and get back to you, but the figure is likely to be small.

Yea I know they are different but still signing a NHL contract is still a lot further than many people get lol. If you can let me know it prob is a small amount but I was just curious cause I heard a lot of talent is going the NCAA route rather than major juniors, especially in the U.S.

According to that article approximately 1/3 players currently in the NHL have suited up for a college hockey team at some point in there lives

List of players this past season that came from NCAA could be missing a few late season signings. Around 208 players.

I can answer for Vermont players who made it to the NHL:

G Tom Draper (WPG, BUF, and NYI) - 2 years
LW John Leclair (MTL, PHI, PIT) - 4 years
RW Martin St. Louis (CGY, TB) - 4 years
G Tim Thomas (BOS) - 4 years
C Eric Perrin (TB, ATL) - 4 years
RW Graham Mink (WAS) - 3 years (was kicked out of school for an off-campus altercation)
RW Patrick Sharp (PHI, CHI) - 2 years
D Jamie Sifers (TOR) - 4 years
LW Torrey Mitchell (SJ, MIN) - 3 years
LW Viktor Stalberg (TOR, CHI) - 3 years

I think that's it for UVM. G Andrew Allen dressed for one game as a Florida Panther but sat on the bench as backup. We lost Viktor's younger brother, Sebastien, after just 3 years last year (don't recall if Toronto or Chicago signed him). We also lost Florida Panthers prospect David Pacan to the Canadian juniors after 2 or 3 years, and some guy I don't even recall the name of who pledged to UVM but then signed with Buffalo after they drafted him in the 1st round last year, so he never even played a game for the Cats.

I put the years they attended next to their names so anything under 4 years means they left early.
