In what way would Chicago be relevant without both Hossa and Kane?

Taking any 2 of these players away would cause massive problems.

In the last five years, name a number 1 center that went to ufa????

(Richards is the closest and he's tanked since signing)

And only have one cup, Kane was a huge reason why they won game 5 and 6. And the LA series.

Maybe this, maybe that... maybe if they let Seabrook go they replace him... or Toews. Maybe the replacement isn't as good as the player he's replacing and it works out to be enough to win, maybe he is as good, maybe he's not as good and it fails miserably.

maybe.

i'll stick with my philosophy regarding centers and defensemen being building blocks and holding significantly higher value than their winger counterparts.

i'm not looking to convince anyone... i'm sure when ovechkin leads the caps, or vanek leads the Sabres to a cup, you will tell me all about how wrong I am.

As I said on page 1, I would do Miller + #16 for Couturier. Retain 50% of Miller's salary, add in a 2nd rounder if necessary.

From Philly's perspective (they need D), you add Miller, a dman at #11 (likely one of Nurse/Risto will be there) and a dman at #16 (Zadarov/Pulock/Morrisey/Mueller,etc) - they've solved their longstanding goalie problem and added two high-end defensive prospects. I think they would bite on that.

The only thing I'm more sure of is that when that happens, you'll tell us all it was their centers and defensemen that really got them there.

I'm actually on board with you in principle, but saying Kane isn't a franchise player is taking it too far.

that's probably true... since without them they would never get there

"Franchise player" talk rings hollow. It's a team game. Put player A on a good team that's wins a Cup and he's a "franchise player". Put player A on a bad team that misses the playoffs and he's "overrated".

When has Darcy ever traded with Philly? I doubt that Darcy has the guts to trade Miller in the Eastern Conference.

The new realignment makes non-divisional conference teams fairly irrelevant, plus Miller can sign anywhere he wants in a year. I doubt Darcy really cares if the deal is one that's better than other deals.

2007:
Gomez was the # 1 center in NJ, signed with Rangers.
Briere was the # 1 center in Buffalo, signed with Philly.
Nylander was the # 1 center in NY, signed with Washington.

2009: Koivu was the # 1 center in Montreal, signed with Anaheim.

The only way Luongo is a target in Philly is if he's bought out in Vancouver. They will not acquire him via trade. Miller makes a lot of sense. But the price range for starting goalies is way down. Gustafsson, Read and others are more likely trade pieces for Buffalo than the pick.

He scored 16 goals in 42 games - that's a 30 goal season in a 82 game schedule in the KHL, the second best pro league in the world.

He's a big train, I want him.

Your numbers are mistaken:
KHL Reg Season: 18 GP - 04 G - 02 A - 06 P
KHL Playoffs: 25 GP - 06 G - 03 A - 09 P
MHL Reg Season: 15 GP - 08 G - 02 A - 10 P
== 43 GP - 10 G - 5 A - 15 P

So that's roughly a 20 goal pace on an 82 game schedule and that's in a small sample size with a high shooting percentage: 21.1% in the regular season, 17.1% in the playoffs.

In his favor, he was getting a very, very small TOI in the reg season as is common for KHL rookies: 08:20 in the reg season and 12:22 in the playoffs.

Bear in mind the total I gave up there included more playoff games than reg season games.
