Andrew Ference

Where do you see him signing? Will he be resigning with Boston or will another team try and get him?

He won't be back in Boston. With Hamilton, Krug and Bartkowski all fighting for one spot, letting Ference go and letting them fight over 2 spots to save some cap room is a no brainer.

I like Ference as a lower pairing mobile defensive defenseman. He has been great in the community, and worn an A part time on a team thats been to the cup 2 out of three years. Someone will be lucky to have him.

Well, two spots.

How I see the defense next yr:

Chara - Boychuk
Seids - Hamilton
Krug - McQuaid

Ference still does have something left, I just don't think he is a fit here anymore. Sad, but true. Someone will be very lucky to have him, and he can definitely be of use in a lot of places.

Extremely unlikely he re-signs here. Although he loves it here and he'd likely be willing to take a discount/stay very close to his current salary, we have some terrific options in Hamilton and Krug, who are locked in for next season, and Bartkowski, who played terrific in the final weeks of the season/some of the playoffs.

Definitely agree with Noodles, he has a lot left to contribute and he's a great guy for the locker room. Still not sure if we'll re-sign him or not, highly doubt it, and I'll miss him a lot if we don't. With our cap situation, letting him walk and letting Krug, Hamilton, and Bart play (no risk, they've proven themselves already) makes way too much sense. Whoever picks him up won't be disappointed. You get what you see, a lot more than what you can guarantee with a lot of other FAs.

He's on my wish list for Nashville. They need a #4/5 steady dman.

Any guesses on salary demands?

On the open UFA market, 2.5-3 is what I'm guessing.

Would love to have him back in Calgary to help make the rebuild a little less painful to watch.

Kings will probably need him as a replacement for Scuderi.

Wish he'd be able to fit in. A great #5 defenseman who can play like a #4 at times. Great all around. I'd much rather have him return than hope three inexperienced defensemen in Bartkowski, Krug, and Hamilton are amazing.

But alas, the salary cap exists....

Winnipeg needs a LHD for the top four badly, so $3.5 or 4M AAV for Ference would be a great add for us given how...erratic our team can be. A steady veteran presence would help a lot.

However, a Scuderi replacement in LA with Sutter seems like the best bet.

the oilers would probably go at least 4, maybe 4.5 mill. He is a good fit and a local boy. They have a clearly identified need which Ference fills.

ufa defencemen make a lot of money. I would rather have him at 4.5 than Striet or Gonchar at their deals.

Good point. The only saving grace is that defensive d men tend to get paid less. Still, it's a scarce ass market this year.

Lost in today's news is that we're more than likely losing @Ferknuckle , exactly what you want in an athlete. Character guy, loved Boston.
Really gonna miss him. Perfect #4-6 defenseman, slot him in anywhere there. He's a huge leader and brings in countless things to motivate the team, like the jacket in 2011, the chain in 2012, and this year's military jacket. We're losing a great guy on the ice, and a key contributor in the community off the ice... Whoever picks him up won't be disappointed at all.

edit: sorry... didn't see the post on this exact topic... sorry for the bump.
