yeah sucks for Downey man. He was such a likeable guy and was so proud to be wearing the CH...

for the dude who mentioned that Lindros is still playing, well...let's remember that Lindros has a much higher upside then Downey does...

nobody wants to see a guy go down like that and not get back up.

I suppose the Tampa fans will be served justice with this if both DiMaio and Downey retire...

actually Troy, I'm guessing it's probably far down the list of potentially badly misleading titles, for example:
>> Breaking News on CBC: Canada to annex US, Bush becomes President of Canada...
>> Just heard on 940 News: Price of beer in Quebec to double...
>> CNN confirms: end of the world is nigh...

There's hardly justice there, and to say so is selfish and lacks understanding or compassion for the problems both players face. The justice you seem to imply only leads to escalation, because neither side is ever satisfied. Tampa fans who share your ignorance could argue it's not justice because DiMaio plays a larger role than Downey on their respective teams.

Think before you post, please.

Well, I dunno... Downey's job is to give and receive punches on the noggin...

Its it wise to put a guy with severe concussion problems in that role?

We need someone like Brashear now, we can't have a small fast team like ours with no one to protect them

I wrote it on my blog before them

Seriously, it's sad but it'll give a spot for a youngster.

Too bad. Hope he pulls through. I like his attitude.

From a personnel perspective, I'm not too worried. All it means is that Murray gets more ice time and Lapierre gets fast-tracked.

Lindros had a long waiting period between his last concussion and his resumption of play, including the lockout year. Downey doesn't have that margin of error, so it looks like goodbye for him. That's too bad for him, and he is very well liked.

Lapierre is a center, no?

Yeah! Give him a spot in the organization if he does retire.

I hate to see such a great team guy go down like that.

I hope he retires, no offence to his fans, but he has EXTREMELY low hockey sense, I know what he brings to the team but I would rather they bring up someone like Kosty, Lapierre.. etc

This is a blessing in disguise if he retires.. no offence..

Terrible, terrible news. Downey may not be the most talented guy out there but he just never quits, incredibly hard worker, and a great 4th line energy guy. I've heard nothing but great things about him in the lockerroom, and Deisel's been a fan-favourite in every city he's played. Shame to see him forced out of the game on a late hit.
