I'd say the over/under is 4.

Here's hoping Umberger gets a couple of goals to shut the announcers up!

Ehh, I'm getting kind of sick of hearing our fans brag about the umberger hit. That was last year...and look at what karma did to us- took Connolly out of the playoffs last year and most of this season. Anyway, RJ is a buffalo legend, but I can see where he'd be annoying as hell to listen to if you are not a buffalo fan. He is, however, very unbiased when the other team is outplaying the sabres and he gives credit where it is credit is due. He just makes it more exciting for buffalo fans (obviously).

Anyway, enough about him. I think that if your D plays well around Esche, there is no reason why he shouldn't make the saves that he needs to. If your team isn't going to back check, then he won't have a chance. I'm still predicting a close and exciting game.

One thing that people never take into consideration when discussing announcer bias is the tone of their voice. What they say is important, but how they say it is just as important.

RJ orgasms everytime the Sabres bring the puck through the neutral zone, but if the other team scores you can barely hear him say "they score".

Sure, he'll praise the other team, but when he talks about the Sabres, it's as if it's a sexual experience for him. He just gets way too excited. He's all kind of homer.

Thats what makes me laugh about him, compare him against the Devils team and its always Marty this and Marty that and they never stop making excuse for the goals they give up. Theyre homers and boring but you cant say RJ is boring so I dont mind him when the sabres play someone else apart from the flyers.

That is not true, in fact a couple times listening on the radio, I thought the Sabres scored when it was the other team, he's into the play on both ends of the ice.

agreed completely, when i read stuff like the quote you quoted i wonder if these people have even heard RJ.

He gets WAY more into the other team's chances/goals than almost any other home announcer I've heard.

Well anytime I've heard him, and I hear him more on the radio than on tv, I don't have a clue when the other team scores because he barely says anything.

While I do agree with you that RJ gets more excited about Sabres goals, it's not true that you don't know when the other team scores. When RJ is doing the commentary for a game and somebody scores, he makes sure you know that somebody scores. Of course he gets more excited when the Sabres score, he's the Sabres announcer and his emotions just get the best of him. I see how he can be annoying to fans of other teams but he sure as hell isn't boring to listen to.

My perception is my perception.

If I can barely tell when the Flyers (or whoever) score, that's what I hear.

I may be a blind homer (as we all are), but one thing that never fools me is my ears.

Although, I haven't had to listen to a game on the radio since before the lockout. Maybe he's less of a homer now. But in my experience, they only get worse with age.

We lose this argument, Sabres fans. The difference between the calls of our goals and our opponents goals is night and day.

That said, he's no worse of a PBP caller than anyone else because of it. What makes him so good is his passion for the game, and the team he calls, as well as his knowledge.

I happen to like his calls of opponents goals a lot better than most of his Sabres calls. Just a nice, calm "SCOARRS" for the opponents, and it sounds real cool. Aside from the one-a-game standouts, Rick's Sabre goal calls are a bit overplayed/extended now a days IMO

I didn't say there wasn't a difference, there obviously is.

But when the other team scores, I certainly notice from his voice
