I thought this was another post about what happened 7 years ago.

Doubt Edmonton goes for it.

Skinner was a very good 7th pick. Keep that in mind.

Sakic has been quoted saying that he isn't going to take Seth Jones first. If thats the case, maybe he is bluffing, is there any chance he falls to the #5 pick?

If so do we take him? I vote yes

Florida would have to be set on Drouin/Mackinnon (the one that falls), Tampa on Nichushkin, and Nashville on Barkov. Probably won't happen, but certainly a possibility. If it DOES happen, either we take Jones or that pick becomes a VERY attractive trade commodity for someone else in the top 10, where we could take Lindholm or Monahan.

the avs boards are an interesting read tonight with this development. i had just assumed that they would be unanimously all for jones. it appears that that hasn't been the case all along at all. the avalanche certainly have many options before them.

I don't see why you would put the two elite Dmen on the 3rd pairing

Skinner and McBain combined are worth a guy who has as good of a chance of being Thomas Hickey as he does to be Shea Weber. Seems pretty straightforward.

Might just be me, but if we somehow did wind up picking 5th and 7th, I'd prefer Ristolšinen to Nurse.

Just dont pass on Nichushkin for Monohan.....projected 3rd line center. Id rather get a guy who was awesome but never came over to play in the NHL than that. At least we would have had the balls to try to win some games for a change.

Who is projecting Monahan to be a 3rd line center? Almost everything I've read projects him to be a solid 2nd line center who might be able to develop into a first line center.

There seems to be a misconception that "defensive responsible" or "complete player" translates into a bottom 6 ceiling. Monahan is a top pick in a draft with a lot of top end talent. I bet he'd be a top 3 pick in at least a couple of the drafts over the past few years.

The only thing i've read about Monahan being a 3C is that many believe that 3C is his floor, which is why the word "safe" is used. I'd love to have him on the roster.

If we had 5th and 7th

I would go for 2 of "big 7"

Say we take Nichushkin and Calgary takes Monahan at 7 take Lindholm.

Tlusty / Eric / Semin
Lindholm / Jordan / Ruutu
Rask / Monahan / Clutterbuck
Westgarth / Welsh / Dwyer

Oh my.

The ELC saving would be about 4m after Clutterbuck for a top 4 D.

i think there was a time that yakupov was not all that well received in edmonton. perhaps that has changed. i would trade the 5th for him in a split second and even add a bit to sweeten the pot.

but about skinner. i think i'm leaning toward keeping him at this point. i don't see the point in moving any of the core guys to add other core guys. unless they could get a big overpayment they hang onto skinner and trade other guys or use other ways to improve the team. it would be nice to get another high pick but they are still unknowns. how can anyone say that any pick will be better than skinner?

tlusty, e.staal, semin, skinner, j.staal, faulk should all be kept. all the others could be dealt imo.

I'm not comfortable going to war with a roster that includes essentially 5 first year players in Monahan, Welsh, Murphy, Rask, and Lindholm. That's another season of early golf.

You don't trade one of the best 7th Overall picks in the past decade PLUS an asset for a 7th Overall pick.

That's just silly.

Not to mention Edmonton has almost zero need for a player like Skinner.

all true i think except that any team could always add a guy like skinner (as much as i waffle about him). edmonton has been a funny case. with perhaps a couple more pieces and with this new coach, i don't see why they couldn't be icing a team that looks very similar to the islanders.

Yeah...no. Just no. Not interested. Wouldn't move Skinner alone for #7. Wouldn't move Skinner for 1OA.
