Little early for that isn't it? He's made a big trade that so far doesn't look great for him, and had signed what 1 player? Good contract for AA though he's going to be big for Columbus.

if he gets injured LTIR completely eliminates his cap impact.

What if he's injured during the 2014 amnesty period, but is fully recovered by the start of the 2014-15 season?

Not every injury means he'll be on LTIR. Look at Bergeron. Not that boston would want to buy him out, but if they wanted to, they couldn't. And I'm sure he'll be perfectly good to go for next season.

Same thing with Callahan and Hagelin. Both players needed post-season surgery. Neither would be eligible for a buyout.

If we get stuck with Richards, we can't put him on LTIR for the rest of his career. We can't put him on LTIR if he retires early and we get a cap penalty.

In the regular season Iggy didn't outproduce Cally and Jagr only had 4 more points. Cally had more goals than Iggy and tied Jagr at 16. Post-season was a different story though.

The season where Callahan was playing with a separated shoulder? The season where Iginla played with Crosby and Malkin? The season where Jagr played with Bergeron?

what if he returns to producing at a level he did every single year other than last years lockout shortened no training camp clusterfrak of a season?

then hes a 70-90 point center better than anything else on the market or likely to be on the market.

hypotheticals work both ways.

Cally had 31 pts, Iginla had 33 combined in 1 less game.

Jagr had 4 more pts as you said.

Callahan TOI/PG: 21:30
Jagr TOI/PG: 18:26
Iginla TOI/PG:17:40

One player is unlike the others.

Both hypotheticals lead to Richards taking up $6.7 million of cap from ages 33-40.

C'mon Kershaw. I know you see this. Why is Callahan's TOI higher? What does he do that those two don't?

I think they absolutely would brass is a playmaker who can set up Iginla's rifle shot, not sure about Jagr honestly

Callahan top 4 most common forward linemates: Derek Stepan, Carl Hagelin, Marian Gaborik, Rick Nash

Iginla top 4 most common forward linemates: Alex Tanguay, Michael Cammalleri, Curtis Glencross, Jiri Hudler

Jagr top 4 most common forward linemates: Jamie Benn, Brendan Morrow, Loui Eriksson, Gregory Campbell
Ryan Callahan had much better linemates and got much more minutes to be placed in a position to rack up point totals.

Iginla is definitely better than Callahan. I'd take Iginla on a 1/2 year deal no question

Richards can't keep up with the play anymore. All of the players were locked out. Not just Richards. Not all of them played in Europe. What is the excuse for Richards? He couldn't make a play or do anything. He was a healthy scratch in the playoffs. Kris Newbury was his replaceable. Kris Newbury. He was the 4th line center before being a scratch. He is paid elite player money. His contract expires in 2020. His first 6 years of the contract have an AAV of $9.5M. $57M. 6 years. $9.5M. The CBA changed. Its time to cut ties and move on.

That doesn't warrant the 4th highest TOI/PG amongst forwards in the NHL.

put it this way, I'd pay Jagr a hell of a lot more than I'd pay Clowe.

You don't see that list as odd to you? Callahan. Gaborik. Nash. All RWers. Does it have to do with the fact that his centers were rotated like crazy? Where are the other LWers? Oh wait, they all rotated like crazy too. Between injuries, the massive trade and the countless promotions/demotions that occurred in just 48 games, that list includes the only forwards who consistently played on the team. Coincidence?

You're on the right track.

The break down on their TOI/GP (ES/SH/PP/Total):
Callahan 15:44 2:33 3:12 21:30
Jagr 16:13 0:00 2:13 18:26
Iginla 13:44 0:00 3:55 17:40

I agree with the point you're making, but you shan't be stretching the facts.
