Maybe the team name could be the Vancouver Knobs with a logo of a door handle.

Then when they lose a game, the headline could be "The Knobs were polished off last night".

Wait. Nvm. Bad idea.

In a lot of places in the States, especially smaller markets, college sports are actually bigger than professional sports.

There's a reason there's 100K+ in some football stadiums.
Those three cities mentioned were in the NBA conference finals (Grizzlies, Spurs, Pacers), not the NCAA's final four.

I'd be down. Maybe cop season tickets if the team sucks and hope they turn it around in like 15 years like the Canucks did.

I'd go to a few games if an elite team came to town (Heat, Bulls, Celtics, Lakers, etc. Mostly to take basketball pictures.), but I'd rather see the Sonics come back to Seattle.

Always loved the name/logo. But not much of a basketball fan to be honest. Now the Vancouver Grizzlies NFL/MLB team I would get behind 100%.

Way too overly simplistic.

There's a reason that Stern expressed regret over how the Vancouver situation was handled.

The on court product was a disaster, partly due to the NBA silly restrictions (the expansion Orlando Magic getting Shaq rule), poor GM'ing and partly due to the artificially low $CDN. However, the attendance wasn't, they actually drew quite well.

We should just make a NBA discussion thread since this gets brought up every 2 weeks.

It could be different the second time but the gong show the first time around really turned me off all things NBA.

Only my personal opinon btw.

Canadian looney was not artificially low. As the US economy bounces back (and it will) we will start seeing an 80cents looney again. Players just did not want to come to vancouver and when the NBA allowed Shaq to take a game off to go graduate, that told me what the NBA thought of the vancouver market when they allow the top draw to miss a game

A lot of people were turned off, I don't blame you. I tuned out the NBA after the move. I think Vancouver deserves a second chance though, and with Rogers Arena in place the biggest hurdle is out of the way.

With the fundamentals the way they are, the only way we see a 80 cent dollar is another US financial crisis/collapse. Risk adverse investors flee to the relative safety of the $USD in times of financial crisis, but it rebounds when investors calm down and put their money back in the markets. Even the hint of the US turning off the taps of quantitative easing (printing money and using it to buy bonds, increasing money supply) caused a recent 3 cent drop on fears of what it meant for the US economy.

Two reasons for the artificially low CDN in the 90's and early 00's, which bottomed out at 63 cents.

A) Political considerations, the large manufacturing industry in Ontario benefited from a low CDN.

B) Oil prices, Oil was hovering between $18 to $30 a barrel. Oil exports are up 40% since then and production is expected to double in the next two decades.

As for the Shaq thing, I don't remember that happening, but NHL players take games off for personal considerations all the time.

Didn't help drafting a player that made it clear he didn't want to be hear over a guy that probably would've enjoyed it here (though obviously for "other reasons" ).

I'm absolutely positive that the mechanics of Big Country's stride inspired the resurgence of interest in zombies.

But did little to satisfy the Zombie's hunger for brains.

If we did have a ball team still, the last week would have been pretty awesome with both NHL and NBA drafts occurring.

Players would have been coming through the city and doing workouts etc. Maybe Vancouver would have scooped Boston and swung a deal for the local boy.

Plus the Griz made the semi-finals this years. This city would have gone nuts had it ever tasted a bit of success like that.

Not a Vancouver resident but man I would love it if they got a new team (along with Seattle, and get some rivalries going in the pacific northwest). Times really have changed with things like social media and I think young Americans now know where Vancouver is and that it's a pretty cool city. Just can't have another Stu Jackson running things, the fans there deserved so much better
