Malone could be great for a team like Buffalo/Calgary to acquire who have lots of cap room to then flip.

Get something from Tampa for taking on his contract.

Malone is then only due 2.5 in real salary each of the next two seasons with a 4.5 cap hit). So they could then turn around and eat up to half of his contract (2.5 over to seasons) and lots of team would be interested in Malone at 2.25 cap hit for each of the next two seasons.

I know Lightning fans think he's done, but I think Yzerman finds a deal there. Someone like Edmonton could be a possibility.
I still like Malone, his problem is the amount of injuries, when he is healthy he is an asset to most teams.

Could see Columbus have serious interest for maybe a third or a D prospect. Golobeuf, Madaisky, Savard or larkin (not sure how high CLB fans rank any off them though)

I don't think Bowness liked Ballard much, either that or AV changed his opinion on him. Ballard was Van's #7 last year.

Wonder what Malone's value is. He's slow, but he goes to the net and gets some goals. He's always injured.

His cap hit ($4.5 mil) is too high, but his actual salary ($2.5 mil) is fair value, possibly a bit low.

Seems like a guy who would have value, but Yzerman clearly disagrees, since he's thinking buyout if there's no trade to be made.

Interesting situation, if only because of its unpredictable nature.

Didin't read the whole thread, but would the Lightning do Liles for Malone?

I like Malone as a big physical forward with pretty good skills.

Wouldn't it make sense to hold onto Malone until after free agency?

Malone will look like a steal compared to
- Horton
- Clowe
- Iginla

Even Morrow might get a comparable contract...

How about Malone for Ballard?

Both potential buy-out candidates.

Salaries are similar.

Canucks could use the grit.

Ballard could use a change of scenery and might be a good fit in Tampa.

2 year ago Tampa Bay tried to trade Malone to Vancouver when Brad Richards was available and they were trying to clear cap to sign him and Malone would not accept a trade to Vancouver, And I dont see it happening now Mugsy has said in the past that he wants to stay in the East.

I seriously doubt it since there is only about $400,000 difference between Liles contract and Malones contract the whole Idea Is that Tampa Bay needs to shed salary big time. The article that i read said that Yzerman just wants a decent pick for him.

Malone will be a good get for a team looking for some secondary depth.

I think we'll take anything at this point just to get him off the roster.

If Malone will waive his NTC to play in Edmonton he's yours.
