Well, Giroux was one that rose drastically. His draft year, he was ranked 208th and when the year finished, he was rated 24th.

Wasn't Morin always thought of to be a 2nd-3rd round guy even at the beginning of the season? He was the 7th overall pick of the 2011 QMJHL draft so it's not like he completely came out of no where.

I wasn't aware of that but still, I think G would be an exception.

Nobody is talking much about our 3rd round pick, but I'd love to see us sneak in there and grab Subban with the 72nd overall.

Similar numbers to PK, just 3 inches shorter.

I want Risto! If we could get him at #11, I would then take a chance on Subban with our 2nd rounder. If I am taking a risk, don't do it at 11...do it with the 2nd rounder.

Oh...and a question to everyone. The Flyers lack a guy that is a #6 guy that can also be sent to the minors if needed. Is there anyone out there that you see that would be a cheap pickup(one that can move the puck)?

G really moved up. Does anyone know where Morin was ranked last year? No way was he a 1st or 2nd rounder as far as projection goes this year. I did see where someone was touting his horn last year but that was it.

lol...I just mentioned him. Do you think our 2nd rounder is too early for him? Have not looked where he is ranked lately.

I think he goes late 2nd round.

Our 2nd is too high. We can get a 3rd tier defenseman with it at the very least.

Subban is 4th tier.

That said, if you get a two-way potential franchise defenseman with Ristolainen, I have NO problems reaching for Subban at 41. He's got fantastic potential as a PP QB.

And that was my thinking as well. Couldbe the perfect compliment for each other. In a perfect world, we get Risto, Morin slips to the 2nd round and we snag him, then get Subban in the 3rd. That would be a fantastic day!

We buy out Bryz and that happens on draft day?

This would be the best week of my life.

IMO there's about zero chance of that happening but if it did I'd call that winning

Subban at 72 is FAR more likely than Morin at 41.

Let me say my realistic hope is...

11 Ristolainen (all-around)
41 Theodore (PMD / maybe two-way)
72 Subban (PPQ / maybe PMD)

Maybe taking a SDD at 41 like Morin would be ideal, but I don't much like the SDDs in the 3rd tier. I like Theodore though.

If we take 3 dmen with our first three picks, I might not see the fourth round.

Haha, one more centre to our backlog... do you have direct access to Homers thoughts!? I would not be surprised if he did something like this!

I like Wennberg quite a lot from what I have seen... mesmeric to watch at times, he makes playing hockey look like he finds it very easy, and he really has very few weaknesses I could spot.

His skating is awesome as well, from what I have seen while he is top end speed wise and he is elusive as hell, D men have a torrid time trying to play the body or stick on him, it is like he is half a second ahead of them, and makes them looks silly.

Always makes me think he is a lot older than he is when I have watched him, (WJC 20 & 18, a few Jr internationals and about 2 1/2 Allsvenskan games!) I suppose he kind of is though compared to the other guys in this draft.

Maybe he won't transfer offensively into the NHL, but will still be a great 3rd line centre (like we need any more centres!)

All that being said... if we took him at 11 I would be pissed off, and he will not fall to 41, and if we got another, later, first rounder I would want another D to go with Ristolainen when we draft him at 11! (fingers crossed on that one.)

Flyers Potential Draft Targets
With the 11th overall pick in the NHL draft, the Flyers will have a lot of top end talent to choose from. Here are some of the players that might hear their name called by Paul Holmgren come draft day.

Rasmus Ristolainen, D, TPS, SM-Liiga
Ristolainen is the most NHL-ready d-man in this draft besides Seth Jones. Playing the past two seasons in SM-liiga, Finland’s top league, Ristolainen knows what it takes to play with men. He isn’t a flashy player by any means but is extremely sound defensively. He’s a good skater who is still trying to find his offensive game, which some scouts say has been coming along. Ristolainen is a pretty safe bet to become a decent NHLer, but he may need another season in Finland or the AHL before making the jump.

Darnell Nurse, D, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, OHL

Josh Morrisey, D, Prince Albert, WHL

Anthony Mantha, RW, Val d’Or, QMJHL

Hunter Shinkaruk, LW, Medicine Hat, WHL

If Risto and Nurse are gone I'm hoping we go with a winger in Mantha or Shinkaruk.

2nd round pick

Okay, there is no thread about this area of the draft but anyways according to mock drafts in the second round Jordan Subban should be available and with all his potential I strongly believe we should draft him he's a great defenseman. I've watched a lot of his games. I believe he could be as good as p.k , Would anyone else be against taking him with our early 2nd round pick?

If we do go for a winger with all the wanted D-men off the board, Shinkaruk I hope is there:

He's not very big, but his shot and speed are sweet. That goal at the end of the video is ****ing dirty.

Read the NHL.com article on Risto. Seems like he will be a workhorse defender also. According to the article he was logging between 25-30 mins a game as a 17 yr old in the Finnish league.

We could come away with only Ristolainen, and I'd be pleased with this draft.

I really hope we draft Risto or Nurse. If we can get one of those 2, that would be ideal, in my opinion.

As stated before, there's also a team or 2 who reaches and an excellent player falls.
