I don't know if he was complacent. As the pressure on him increased, the moves he made became about playing it safe. Back to tried and true line combos and match ups that often weren't working anymore.

His motivational tactics definitely became complacent except for some pathetic attempts at running the team like it was in bantam with those pushup penalties.

That said, Kassian hasn't done anything egregious in Vancouver aside from clubbing around like a young person.
This exactly, I don't mind any player going to the club, as long as they don't let it effect there on ice performance.

replace steubenville with "every small town in america" and i agree with you

that attitude of "let boys be boys" ruins thousands of lives a year

I agree, I'm saying if your problem is that hes out drinking, you need to relax.

I only heard of Kane celebrating his cup at some bars and sleeping with a bunch of girls, I don't know about any other accusations.

For those who missed it, here's Torts a little more candid interview that was on Team 1040 yesterday.

No class whatsoever. I think the media in this town is out of control under the guise of being the fan's voice. For the most part they are pompous and childish. I think the fans and Torts deserve better than that. If they start treating him as Taylor did I think you will see the fans side with Torts- we aren't as ignorant as they think we are.

*I was referring to the earlier post of Connected not the radio interview

The media in general loves to report on itself. It's why when a reporter gets kidnapped in Afghanistan or Iraq, it's a massive story - they get to talk about themselves and frame the conversation in heroics.

There hasn't been an interview since Torts has been hired where the entire conversation isn't built around his interactions with media members. These morons love it when they're part of the story.

I'm really interested to see how the Sedins respond with Torts at the helm. I mean at the very least I expect the twins to still do their thing, not worried about that; but can he inspire them develop bit more of a killer instinct? Specifically when playoff time rolls around?

Don Taylor seemed a little flustered in that clip btw. Torts was losing patience with him towards the end there, will that be par for the course this season?

I wouldn't say pompous for the most part, just rather childish and fortunate to have been grandfathered jobs from Sports Page. Idiots that would be fun to drink with while watching a game but that bring nothing to media.

Send a message via MSN to Free Torts
The cadre of Sports Page alums still working in the industry have had way, way too much rope in this town. They're getting past the point of embarrassing to watch, particularly Taylor.

Shorthouse excepted.

Taylor's schtick was kinda fresh and funny in the mid-1990s but after 20+ years of doing exactly the same thing, it's just cringe-worthy at this point.

Listening to Torts makes me a bit more comfortable about this whole ordeal.

At first, I hated this move, but the more he talks, the more I'm excited.

I love how Taylor dyes his hair every time he goes on national tv. I remember one year he went to Toronto for the trade deadline show and all of a sudden had dark brown hair.

On a side note, Torts has won as many playoff rounds in the last 2 years as AV has in the last 3 years. And we were first overall in 2 of those seasons.

Kind of reminds me of the way Dan Russell turned out in a way.

Kind of, yeah.

Russell used to be a legitimately excellent reporter and interviewer, one of the few legitimately intelligent guys in our media. He's still an intelligent guy, but his bitterness about not being the next Jim Robson completely destroyed him and he's now lingered on as a joke for the last decade.

Taylor had a fun, fresh way of reading highlights off a teleprompter that got boring 15 years ago but has somehow turned it into a career as a very mediocre media personality.

Amazing how these guys just never seem to go away. Same with Pratt, although he's been useless from the beginning.
