I also would like to see Bartley-Ellis as our last defensive pairing and Gil as a hs. So a top 4 to play with Klein would be nice.

Yeah, Gill is an interesting topic. Good on the PK and good mentor for the kids, but $2 mil is a steep price for someone frequently injured and aircraft carrier slow. I ultimately see him as an expensive regular scratch.

So Lecavalier is being bought out. Any interest on our part?

I'd love to get him. However, he's now the biggest UFA out there.

He might be the biggest free agent but how many teams have the cap space to sign him?

I think teams will make space. Even the crazy Flyers still have over $4 mil after signing Streit.

That really depends on his post buyout salary. He'll get paid by Tampa so who knows what he'll ask for on the open market on top of that.

Unfortunately, as much as he can get.

If I was DP, i'd be all over this. Vinny isn't what he once was, but he's better than anything else out there, way better than anything we have, and fills a gigantic hole on our team.

I have some feeling that some dumb Canadian team will offer him something incredibly stupid based on his name.

But maybe this pushes one of the other FA's down the board a bit.

Also, does this put Tampa in the Barkov hunt - they'll need a center to replace him.

Chasing Vinny gets interesting from a cap perspective. Would that be enough to convince the owners and Poile to use a compliance buyout to free some cap room?

Tune in later this week to find out. Same bat time. Same bat channel.

Lots of speculation on the boards about him either heading to Montreal (home?) or staying in Florida with the Panthers.

Can't possibly see him going to the Panthers at this point. Which, by the same logic, I might as well just say I can't possibly see him coming here at this point.

He's been destined for Montreal for years.

Although it would be ironic for Legwand AND Lecavalier to be here. (1998 draft)

I say we take a hard look at Lecavalier unless he is asking for mega $$. I also think we should look at Stalberg especially if SK74 bolts! He is fast and a gritty player who shoots the puck and is not afraid to drop the gloves! We need some of those kind of players.

GMDP knows he has to make some moves this summer to appease the fans AND the Owners! No more missing the playoffs!

I'd love Lecavalier but we'll probably have to overpay for him to get him away from Montreal. Or anyone else that wants him. Still, I'd be ecstatic.

Cap available 12,148.690

Wing to replace Erat 4 mil
Wing to replaced SK 3.5 mil
Back Up Goalie 1.5 mil
Top 4 Defenseman 4 mil
cap hit for #4 3.25 mil

Total 16.25 mil

Unless some players are moved a big fish like Vinny, Horton are unrealistic both will get over 5 mil Horton will likely get the 6 he wants. with the abundance of centers someone named Legwand or Fisher will be the likely candidates will have to be moved.

Any way its looked at there has to be a couple moves. And if Poile is true to his word that no buyout will be used he must have one heck of a plan to get the team competitive.

Evenwith the 4 pick not making the team these numbers are still over

Jim Diamond and I talked about this, this morning on Twitter. We agreed--Preds will have interest, but next to no chance he signs here. He's essentially now the number one FA on the market. Just because he's getting paid twice doesn't mean he'll come cheaply, and he'll also have his pick of more desirable destinations.

I think it increases our chances of landing Briere though.

Not really. Poile said the team wanted to get bigger. Briere doesn't fit that mold.

From what I've read, Briere is vocal about staying close to his family who live in New Jersey. He'll sign cheap up there before signing for more elsewhere, it seems.

Technically we could claim Vinny off of waivers if we wanted him. Yes we would have to pay that contract but after the next two years he makes like 4 a year.

Wouldn't we get to add SK74 money back to the cap before we use it to buy?

No way the Preds could pay that much. I hope we really pursue Richards though. Just because he was in Tortz's doghouse doesn't mean he is a bad player. He could put up 60-70 points for us, and we all know we need that.

Like i just posted, Richards I think is the guy we should pursue. I think we could realistically get him. Not to mention he was the guy Poile was looking at when we traded for Fish, his price was just too high.

I think moving leggy to the wing could also help us out. Then put Richards and Wilson together, you have the top line. This sign also takes pressure off of Barkov as a scoring center, assuming he's the guy we get.

Edit: Richards had 11g/23a/34p this year. 6 more points then Weber, who led the team.
