Very positive game. 2nd line (merged)

There's two way to see tonight's game.

1: We lost

2. We played the Flames yesterday, 60 minutes of end to end action, the team took the plane and flew to Chicago and they played with effort for 60 minutes and lost.

I will be chosing #2 here. I've yet to see this team not play a full 60 minutes this season and this is quite encouraging, quite refreshing actually since this was a huge problem in the last few seasons.

So, hats off to our boys who played with effort tonight even though they lost

I agree Habs totaly owned the first 2 periods.

The ice looked slow and the pucks kept bouncing. The crowd sucked and so did the play by play guys and I reallly think this affected people's perception of this game.

i didnt see a good effort tonight personally, i think the first goal they scored on us summed up the whole game for us "we were sleeping"

and our power plays looked putrid.

thats what i saw tonight anyone else agree?

Carbo after the game.

"We are at the 6th game....The second line HAS to give us more. They are all minus players and it's time they do something."

You made some changes in the third will you continue with those kind of changes next game?
"Yes absolutly"

He looked pissed at that line.

With good reason. I so wish we had Shanahan instead of Samsonov. We'll end up buying him out next summer...

I agree with you, I don't see something positive from tonight game. The execution on offense/defense was awful mostly on the second and fourth line. Too many bad penalties. This game should have been a easy two points.

There's nothing wrong with the first goal, Havlat didn't have that much space to work with, Aebischer should of made the save.

lol cant believe it.. Expos's fans over here... Mediocre opposition, even worst showing by our Habs.... The Hawks are gonna fade and will end the year 14th or 15th in the West...

Good for Carbo!
I was very pleased with his decision to demote Samsonov during the game. I'm a patient guy but come on already...they have to get going.

I didn't think it was a great, 60 minute effort, but it wasn't terrible. I thought at times that the Habs were toying with the Hawks, and were completely out-classing them talent-wise.

I thought Khabibulin was very good, and kept the Hawks in the game.

But on the whole, decision-making with the puck and the urgency wasn't there as it has been.

The 2nd line played like crap. The rest showed up.

And when you see the video I'll make...will you make a thread to say you were wrong?

I can think of several teams which will finish behind Chicago this season. The final season standings aren't the point, Chicago's a hot team now and we kept up with them the whole game.

Also, another stellar PK game going 7/7. Who's the guy complaining about Kovalev on the PK?

You're kidding right?

The Habs played like crap. No excuses. They should have had this game walking away against an inferior opponent.

Losing games like this is what prevents teams from having home ice advantage in the playoffs.

Pitiful game.

I for one don't want to see Samsonov on the third line. Honestly I think the chemistry on that third line is fragile, and I wouldn't mess with it. If Perez-Bonk-Johnson is clicking, then don't mess with it. Samsonov trying to stickhandle through three players isn't going to help them.

I see what you mean but I think Perezhogin is the variable on that line. I think it's more safe to say that Johnson and Bonk are clicking, not the whole line. I can't imagine putting Samsonov on the line will make them any better, but I don't think it'll throw them out of whack either.

As long as we win I dont care what the lines are. But one goal against the Hawks makes my stomach queasy.

Boring game!!!! It almost seemed like we were destined to lose this game. Kinda like Game 6 against Carolina. No matter how well we played we were not going to win.

Anyway tonight's game takes us back to first place in PK% (though we're tied with ATL). If we continue to neutralise special team situations, we'll have a chance to win every game. I think last night's hard-fought victory played a huge part tonight, as clearly everyone was exhausted in the third period.

I didn't see the game as I played hockey myself tonight...I saw the shots on goal and we did outshoot them like 29-23. Was Khabibulin on his game? Or were our Habs just not finishing plays?

I feared this would happen, although no one can be sure, but losing 2-1 and outshooting your opponent after a game like last night vs Calgary has to take it's toll. We're not getting killed out there, however. We've been in every game thus far and I find that no matter who we play we won't get killed.

Chicago isn't a bottom feeder this year and people have to understand that. I saw the highlight of the Havlat goal...He's a game breaker and he walked right through everyone.

We'll beat the Avs on Saturday. I'm looking forward to it.

I thought we played as good a game as we were going to, when you take travel, jet lag and last night's game into effect. Can you imagine if we were playing a well-rested Sabres team, for example?

The dots should have been connected between points made by two different posters: one about Khabibulin and one about Aebischer. The Habs had more scoring opportunities but the Hawks had by far the better man in goal.
