Really, he makes as many mistakes as Souray, but has the worst shot of all our D. Please Carbo, put anyone else on the point but Rivet.

He's playing defense, it's role in an ice sport known as 'Hockey'... I'll explain more later, gotta get some studying done tonight. Just google it!

I agree though he should not be on the pp.
Markov Streit Souray and Niinimaa and Kovalev should be playing back there!

Can someone explain to me why Rivet is in the NHL?

This guy has shown no signs of any reliability since the beginning of the season. What were once hallmarks of his play, like sacrificing his body and being willing to take a hit to make a pass have disapeared. I've never seen a Dman decide to hold the puck at his feet and absorb the hit instead of making a pass and taking the hit so many times. He looks indecisive and slow. The communication problems between him a Sourray make me gag.

I've always liked him and hope he turns it around but at this point he's been nothing short of terrible.

I agree, though Rivet brings other intagibles to the team i dont think there is a less skilled D-man in the league. It's painfull to watch him handle the puck.

Smartass, so you think Rivet is good on the PP? I really think that he's the worst Habs D on the PP.

he played way over his head last year, i think that is too fresh in our minds. i feel he's back to how he used to be in previous seasons, which even though i hate to say it, is pretty expendable at $2 million per season this up coming summer

I thought picking up Niinimaa was gonna solve the hole problem.I really don't understand why Rivet is there

I've always felt this is really what is holding us back from being a true contender: The dman on our 2nd PP unit. How many games have been lost because of this 2nd PP unit? I'd say at least 12 so far.

Come on guys. Yes it sucks to lose, but let's not go flood the boards with ridiculous threads. No one seemed to mind too much about Rivet being on the PP last night.

Granted he isn't the best out there, I will admit this. And maybe it is time we give Niinimaa a shot, but Rivet is not the reason we lost, and it's not as though he's destroying our PP.

Haha, no I don't!

Souray, Markov, Streit and Niinimaa should be our top 4. I'd play Komisarek and Kovalev before Rivet myself too. Maybe Bouillon and Dandenault, just for the footspeed too.

Well, every season, they have those things called Drafts where every team has a chance to "draft" players. Rivet was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens.

I think Komisarek with his new game and how he loves to jump in the rush and pinch at the blue line should be given a chance on the power play just to see what he can do!

Trying to make me shoot myself, I think.

Honestly, anybody would be better back there. Any of our D-men. Hell we could put a forward back there and there wouldn't be any difference.

Rivet is the worst habs D plain and simple. I love the guys heart, grit and leadership...but he doesn't deserve to be here anymore.

So what's your point? There's been considerable turnover in personnel since Rivet was drafted.

He's filling in while Dandenault's out. Give him a little while to start clicking with the rest of them.

Rivet was on the PP at the begining of the season (and as far as I remember he was for a good part of last season, and pretty much every other season). We have better options...

As I said earlier, Rivet has two enormous flaws for a PP dman... he's very bad at intercepting clearings and is waaaaay too slow of a skater in situations of counter attack. He'd be the last D I'd use on PP.. IMO either give Markov or Souray the whole 2 mins.. if not, use Kovy with Streit or Niinimaa on the second wave. Komi seems a lot more minded on offence this year, why not use him?

Rivet, I simply don't get it.

for having a slow start? he was our second best defender last season. he surely still deserves to be here.

I wouldn't go as far as saying he was our 2nd best defender. He was consistent in the defensive zone, but he's (imo) our worst defenceman at making first passes, doesn't have a good shot, doesn't have any offensive intuition and is only "solid" defensively... You'd figure someone who really has nothing else to offer would be more than what he is defensively. To me he's got worth with the team, but not more than any other guy in our top 7 (Bouillon included).
