Why is the salary cap going down next year?

It was negotiated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. We had a shortened season, so the revenues were less than you would have in a regular season. If you went by the letter of the law, because the revenues were down, the cap would be well below what it will be, which is $64.3 million. With a full season next year, it could go to $75 million. The cap this year was $70.2 million, based on the previous season.
Sweet. Perfect for re-signing Brown and bring in a UFA.

Awards:
Clowe is UFA

Also, Olesz was a CBO by Chicago... Maybe the Kings would take a chance on this guy?

Obviously if Mitchell is healthy, we will be shedding a defenseman for a pick, but overall, the forward we acquire has to be a perfect fit and has to be a player that is around or under $2 million. Clowe is coming off a $3.6 million cap hit, though he has had a couple of rough years and should be universally hated by this fan base, will still earn a decent paycheck. I doubt he'll be playing for less than $2 million next year.

But clowe is the only player in the league who can play the puck from the bench. That has to be worth something right?
I would rather keep Penner than bring in Clowe.

Unless Lombardi makes room, and I'm just not seeing where that happens, the Kings won't do anything on the 5th in terms of UFA's. Maybe get a guy for less that slips through the cracks a week or two into free agency.

I think Martinez gets moved at the draft.

Dean has about $3 million to spend on a player in the off season. Scuderi probably won't take the pay cut, so that leaves Holloway or Penner.

I'm on my phone but I'm curious. If Mitchell is done an is LTIR'ed and either Martinez/Muzzin is dealt at the draft. How much room do we have?

Almost $3 million and the Kings could go over the cap by another $3.5 million (Mitchell's cap hit). So, $6.5 million of cap space available for 2 players.

The problem would be if Dean spends the $3.5 million in the off season and Mitchell is cleared to play. Dean would have to move $3.5 million off the cap before the start of the season and you can't waive and bury contracts anymore. Kings would have to sweeten the pot to move Regehr to another team or trade Williams for futures.

Penner should've used this classic Patrick Roy line:

I would like to keep him as well but when you look at our D we are heavy right now. And he is probably the most valuable asset that we have that we could stomach to lose.

I'd trade Ellerby for a pick to shed some salary.

No way does Ellerby bring more than a fifth. Purely a cap move if he goes.

I do think it is possible to sign Scuderi for about $3m AAV but that might require a 4 year deal. I would love to see Penner come back but I think that is unrealistic at this point. I also wouldn't be shocked to see the Kings carry 22 players to start the season.

Mitchell's stupid injury put the Kings in a really tough spot.

It looks like Penner is gonna walk for sure. It sounds like he won't take a discount

Me neither, but there is something to be said for guys like Penner, Bickell and Byfuglien. We need a big, strong, puck possession guy with soft hands. Every cup winning team seems to have them.

Last rumor was CLOWnE wanted a $4-5 Mil a year deal over 7-8 years right ? so NO to him

and Rostislav Olesz can't even put up #'s in the AHL, our very own BUD Holloway would be a better option

If Olez could stay healthy he would an alright player but until then he is going to have to be willing to go to another AHL team.

His contract was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too big.

Rumor is Vinny is going to sign in TO. His agent has already had a couple of meetings with TL and Nonis.

I think its going to get done.

Are we in talks with WPG player for picks?

Avs get a great deal out of Calgary and Calgary sheds cash.
