When I was 11 or so, I had myself convinced that Kovalev was the second coming of Jesus. I thought he should of won every award...even the Rocket Trophy which I thought was an award for having the nicest/hardest shot....

Trying to think of my most embarrassing one..

When I was like 5 or 6 I thought the Canadiens was an ironic name that the French picked to make the other teams mad. Quebec, was an independent country and hated Canadians so much that they took "our" name and then spelt it wrong just to spite us..

I was a pretty special child.

When I first started watching I was maybe 8 or 9. One of the first things that I saw was Frank Mahovlich score a goal. He was right in front of the net and the goalie was lying on his back so Mahovlich roofed it. The announcers then raved about Mahovlich scoring a hat trick. So for a while I thought a hat trick was when the player shot the puck into the top of the net.

Not NHL but the first time I played hockey on a team I'd never heard of offside... I guess I went offside because after my first shift, the coach tried to explain offsides when I went to the bench... I had no idea what he was talking about...

next time out, I was offside again and the bench was yelling at me, so I skated in one random direction and they stopped... Coach gave me a pat on the back after the shift and I had no idea why, haha

of course I was in elementary school at the time.

When I was young, I thought Colorado was a city. Same for Minnesota, New Jersey and Florida. I also didn't know that New Jersey was so close to New York City. And I thought that Colorado - Denver was something like 100 miles from Canada's borders because of that divison they played.

When I was younger I was so confused when teams pulled the goalie in a delayed penalty.

This is very embarrassing for me.

I never really gave it much thought as to why you throw your hat when someone gets a hat trick. I always thought it was just something someone did and people followed suit and it just sort of became a thing. Until, I would say a year ago, when someone was explaining hockey to someone. Then it sort of dawned on me, 'Hat trick'...man I felt so f'ing dumb.

BTW i am 28.

I thought it was mandatory for the team losing by a goal or 2 to pull their goalie so the winning team can have a freebe

I thought that Finland belonged to the big 7. Sorry, but not NHL related.

I remember thinking that the Hitmen were the Flames' biggest rivals and the Oilers were a WHL team.

When I was a kid, I used to pronounce Pronger as -> 'Proogner'. I don't know why. I probably saw Progner and not Pronger.

When I was a kid I didn't know the puck had to enter the other team's zone before you. And after I learned it, I didn't know your teamates couldn't enter the zone either. So I kept creating offsides and my coach had to explain it to me but he was so mad and I was so shocked that I didn't know what he was talking about(good thing I realised it before entering Pee-Wee lol). And I thought when watching games that refs used to call offsides when they wanted to, not cause they had to. So I would get mad and thought they were rooting for the other teams when they could call the Habs offsides.

I used to think the guy coming out of the box did something in the box to make that "click, click, click" sound as he comes out. I wondered if he'd get penalized if he didn't do it.

Then I saw the goalie tapping his stick. Boy did I feel like an idiot.

When the goalies would bang their sticks on the ice to signal the end of a PP, I thought they were cheering their team on.

I used to think icing was when someone sprayed the goalie with ice.

A friend of mine thought Jarome Iginla was two players named Jarome and Iginla

Not hockey related. But I use to think bench points in basketball were scored while sitting down. I had a bench in my driveway next to my net at home and would practice getting 'bench points'

The trapezoid refers to the area behind the net where the goalie can legally play the puck not the two areas in the corner where he can not.

Definitely a lot for me when i was younger but i always remember that i could only ever pick up on 3 leafs as a little kid, Sundin, Domi, and Tucker. I use to think Domi was like a star. I only really was able to tell players by play style because i was basically blind back them
