A signed Letang and a pick in either the first or second round? Oh sure, that would be fab. I'd also like a crack at dating tennis star Sloane Stephens. But I don't like the odds of either.

A signed Letang and a 2nd round pick is not far-fetched at all. A signed Letang and a 1st round pick is extremely far-fetched.

Who is Shero going to realistically deal (that both he and Bylsma don't want) that will get us into the second round?

It would probably be a younger player, which would be a lateral move at best.

If Jordan Leopold can fetch a 2nd, I don't see why it's far-fetched to suggest Niskanen could too.

Leopold fetched a second at the trade deadline, not when everybody is looking for players and so many more players are available as free agents.

Here's hoping you guys are right!

Niskanen would probably fetch a 3rd, at a push a lower end 2nd. Orpik could fetch a high 2nd and maybe a late 1st at a push if a team was really high on him.

I could see Niskanen dealt, after all he's still probably too young for Disco. But Orpik, I'd say there's zero chance.

We're keeping the band together, after all!

Do we have our 2nd rounder next year? I forget the conditions of the trade.

Nope.

Or next year, evidently.

Kerby Rychel is a player that I would have like to see on the Penguins (if he was available in the late first round).

He was fun to watch when he was on the Mississauga Majors.

I'm guessing he has to be Warren's son.

Wait what? So we don't have one in 14 or 15?

Good god I'm dense.

I didn't read your original post correctly. We don't have one this draft or next draft.

I think the Penguins could easily acquire a 2nd round pick in this year's draft and next year's (though not at the same time)

Is anyone going to the draft? Also, did anyone go last year? I'll be attending on Sunday, and I am wondering how easy it is to meet some of the prospects, and any advice you may have.

And now my work for the weekend is done... and I can focus on watching this draft and feeling disappoint.

"No Niskanen / Kennedy for picks? WTF Ray I am disappoint!"

"No reasonable Letang contract?... so disappoint."

"You traded him to Carolina and Skinner was not involved? I love the Blackhawks!"

Here's my list of players I would like the Penguins to draft (not for each pick, just in general). I also tried to be realistic as to who would be available with our picks.

1. RW Hudson Fasching
2. D Eric Roy
3. D Matt Murphy
4. LW Yan-Pavel Laplante
5. D Mason Geertsen

Just looked at TSN's draft page... Shero has to make some moves regardless of Letang situation.

We have 2x 3rd round, 1x 4th round, 0 5th round. Afrer that who cares...

That is not a great situation in a deep draft. Niskanen and Kennedy need to go for whatever 2nd, 3rd rounders we can get IMO. If we're lucky we could get 2x 2nd rounders for them.

Wonder what we could get for Iginla's rights. Probably nothing as teams may assume he doesn't want to play for Bylsma.

I'll tell you this much: if the Penguins don't select this one particular player whom I happen to have a big crush on even though I've hardly seen any of these kids play I'm going to **** all over Ray Shero's drafting ability.

As would be your right under the HFB Constitution.

Pretty much I'll go with whatever you guys say.

Don't get much CHL love down here south of the Cheeselands. If we get a highly touted dark horse with a cool last name (like Klinkhammer)... I'm in.

I'm through with that Macaroni kid. Punk.

I hope the team throws one of the mid-round picks on Anton Slepyshev. Don't quite understand him being completely passed over again. Yeah, there's the possibility of him never coming to NA but the team completely lacks forward prospects with top-6 potential and I'd rather take a shot with a guy like Slepyshev than drafting a middling skills, energy NCAA guy that projects to top out as a 3rd-liner with one of those picks. The system doesn't need a couple more Bryan Rust's.

Would also like Justin Bailey if the team acquires a 2nd-round pick.

I think last season he missed the combine because of exams in russia. This caused scouts to think he didnt want to come over. But he is a good prospect, seems like a semin type.
