Keith should have won this in a landslide. His play was reminiscent of Niedermayer in 07 - solid/better than average offensive production, but a workhorse defensively who almost always made the right decision with the puck. That was good enough for the Conne Smythe in 07 where there was an equally weak field of forwards on the winning team. I don't see how any player on either side could have been considered more effective. But I suppose this is just a continuation of how flawed the voting system is when the media is involved.

Kane wasn't that invisible and can't be that bad when only Krejci scored more points in this years POs

Kane scoring the hat trick to win the WCF and then his 2 goals in Game 5 cemented it for the voters. Plus, he has more star power than probably anyone else on Chicago for the national fan base.

You ARE aware the Conn Smythe winner isn't selected by Bettman right? The Professional Hockey Writers' Association votes for the winner.

I don't think Crawford was deserving of it, in the same way I decided Rask was not longer eligible, unless they did something miraculous, which Crawford didn't. If there was a weakness on Chicago, it was Crawford, though his overall stats may say otherwise, he didn't play that great in the finals and had to rely on his offense to bail him out a few times, most notably in that 6-5 OT win and in this last minute 2 goal comeback. I think Crawford was solid for most of the playoffs, obviously, but didn't play at an elite level for the SCF.

In the finals Crawford had a 2.07GAA and .925 Sv%. Overall he was 1.84GAA and .932 Sv%.

Ward won the Smythe with 2.14 and .920
Vernon won the Smythe with 1.76 and .927
Roy won the Smythe with 2.13 and .929, 1.70 and .934 and 1.92 and .923

Crawfords numbers are very comparable here. I think we have been spoiled with extreme recent efforts by Quick, Thomas and Giguere that there's now an assumption that a goalie must have superhero stats to win the trophy.

Congrats to Kane. He constantly proves himself to be a clutch player.

Not to take anything away from his accomplishment but this must be the worse year since Nieuwyndyk in terms of the performance of Conn Smythe candidates.

Agreed, while I'm happy Kaner won (Buffalo ties & I went to school with his siter) I think Keith should've won this time around. I don't even know what his point totals look like and I don't care. He's dominant out there in all aspects of the game.

Truth is the Dead Puck Era never ended. There was a slight uptick in scoring after the strike and then it went right back down.

I would have given it to Keith, he was constantly good while Kane had stretches were he was invisible.

They wouldn't have won the Final without Kane's contributions, but they wouldn't have even gotten to the Final without Bickell's. They wouldn't have even gotten past the 2nd round. Because of that, I consider him to be their most valuable player throughout the playoffs. I think that it's a bit of a shame that Kane won it because of a strong final 7 games, but he's a star and a sexy pick. Conn Smythes just don't go to Bryan Bickells. At least Bickell will get recognition for his impressive contribution for years when people look at his new contract and remember why he got it... though likely not nearly as flattering, of course.

Kane was deserving IMO, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a "they made us vote before your GWG in 2010, so take this one instead" component to it

Not to take anything from LaFontaine, but the 92-93 season as a whole was a big statistical anomaly in terms of scoring, I think it might even be the highest scoring in league history.

Others may have been AS deserving but I don't believe anyone was MORE deserving than Kane.

Clutch player who made big plays when they were needed. Congrats.

I agree. I think the Kings had lost the series well before the hat trick (although he certainly still gets credit for closing it out in spectacular fashion)...

but those two goals against the Bruins probably delivered the cup to Chicago, and Kane is probably one of about 3 players who can score those goals.
