So what's the deal about limits on scholarship money that the Q can offer? A Remparts reporter tweeted: "With the new limits to the scholarships they can offer in the QMJHL, the league isn't competitive anymore with the American colleges."
Teams can't give more than 10k/year. QMJHL gives 5k/year. So the limit is 15k/year.

You should add Belpedio to the list of 1996 defense

All of the rosters - save one - have been released for the Select 17 player development camp. Most of the top players (non-NTDP) are there including:
  • F - Blake Clarke
  • F - Nick Schmaltz
  • F - Paul Bittner
  • F - Keegan Iverson
  • F - Joey Dudek
  • F - Chris Wilkie
  • F - Dominic Turgeon
  • D - Joshua Jacobs
  • D - Aaron Haydon
  • G - Alex Nedeljkovic
  • G - Chris Birdsall

I'm interested to see if Wilkie is in play after leaving the NTDP. If it was on good terms I'm sure he'll be on the team and I would assume he expects to be in play otherwise I would imagine he wouldn't be there.

A few players missing so far (Dvorak, Gersich, and Norman could be on the Royal roster which hasn't been posted) include:
  • F - Christian Dvorak
  • F - Shane Gersich
  • F - Seamus Malone
  • F - Ryan Norman

Hopefully they're all, save Malone, on the Royal roster because they would be all be heavily in play for the squad. Malone, like Cammarata and McCoshen last year, won't be available as he will be with Dubuque at the Junior Club World Cup in Russia. I know Gersich has joined the NTDP but I hope he's there because USAH has usually chosen players for their Hlinka squad that joined the NTDP for their U-18 seasons (see Demko, Clifton, and Malone from last year's team).

Two NTDP players, F - Dylan Pavelek and G - Blake Weyrick, are also there. Usually NTDP players aren't available for the Ivan Hlinka squad but they're both at the camp likely because they missed significant portions of their U-17 campaigns due to injury. When this happens, USAH has made exceptions before (such as Brendan Silk in 2011), so hopefully they're in play as well.

I still wish USAH would supplement this team with a couple of the best NTDP players (like Eichel, Milano, and Glover) because the best players should play when they can because it will only help their development.

All things considered, it should be a competitive team with strong goaltending and good forward depth, especially if Wilkie is on the team.

Here's an interesting article on the ADM...

http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/94...-espn-magazine

This is the first I've heard of the AAU getting involved in hockey and I certainly am not too thrilled with that.

Any chance that Keaton Thompson could crack the U-20 team in the next two years?

I'd be surprised if he made it next year but he could have a chance the following year if his game improves.

Apparently Blake Clarke didn't make the Ivan Hlinka squad. I wonder how that bridge was burned.

@bclarke11: Well, good to see that absolutely nothing has changed. #whatajoke

And Chris Wilkie didn't show up to camp either so no go on the Hlinka squad for him as well.

If that's the case (as I'm reading), then USA Hockey needs to give their head a shake.

Everything I've read the past few days from people attending the camp suggested he was the best player on the ice.

Not yet but it's leaking on Twitter. Joey Dudek, Nick Schmaltz, Blake Weyrick, Cody Milan, Chris Wilkie, Kyle Connor are on the team.

So apparently Wilkie will be there.

Wilkie may be injured currently. No sense to the Clarke omission. Something must have happened at the YOG but USAH isn't be open with Clarke.

I don't know if I'd say there's no sense to it. Has to be something behind the scenes but I'm not in the know, just speculating. I don't blame them for not discussing it publicly, you don't want to come out and trash the kid.

It's not about discussing it publicly but discussing it with Clarke. If you have an issue with Clarke (attitude, play, whatever) that's keeping him off your teams then tell him what the issue is so he can address it and if he can't stop stringing him along. Instead, they keep bringing him along (NTDP camp, Select 16, Select 17) yet haven't offered him a spot on any of the resulting teams despite him clearly deserving to be on some (all) of those teams. Why would Clarke bother showing up to the Select 17 if USAH was actually being honest with him? And given his reaction, I doubt they are.

I wonder if Canada will offer Clarke a spot, given that he is a dual citizen.

50/50 chance but expect Clarke to eventually don the maple leaf as he's fed up with USA Hockey.

The lack of any apparent communication on USA Hockey's part is certainly disappointing. It reminds me a bit of the complaints Shane Prince had when he was cut from the WJC team a few years back; no explanation was given and no efforts were made to soften the blow.

If any player that's trying out for a team doesn't make it for any reason I think it makes a lot of sense to explain the reasoning to that player. Giving someone the cold shoulder is not a productive way to handle things, especially when kids are involved.

I give them the benefit of the doubt often but it really looks like USA Hockey has dropped the ball here.
