If we were trading for Ryan I would want the deal to be Coburn, Read, 2013 2nd, 2014 1st for Ryan and Sbisa. Or something similar to that.

Schenn-Giroux-Ryan
Hartnell-Couturier-Voracek
Gagne-Laughon-Simmonds
McGinn-Talbot-Rinaldo

Timonen-Schenn
Streit-Sbisa
Grossmann-Gus

I could almost see that if some trades went through.
Do not think Hartnell is gone unless we get Ryan.
But, I would rather use assets for better picks or defense.
and sign Ryan as a FA later.

A rumored trade was Coburn, Laughton and our #3 this year for
Edmonton's first in 2013, #7 overall.
I would bite on that, an earlier pick than #11 would be great.
Better chance of drafting more than one of Pulock, Morrissey or Ristolainen.

Another rumored trade was with Coyotes.
Read, Mezzaros and #2 pick in 2014 for Yandle.
I would jump on that trade as well if offered.

If they were not interested in Mezzaros I would
be willing to offer them Ghostibehere instead.
I would be willing to sacrifice Ghost, since I would
be restocking the defense with picks this year.

This would be my plan going forward.

Draft Ristolainen: he could be ready as early as this year but even if he isn't he has all the tools to become and #1 or at least a top 4 defenseman that can carry a pairing. He could spend some time in the ahl if he doesn't make the team out of camp this year.

During the draft I would then offer Anaheim coburn, read, and either our 2014 first or our 2nds this and next year for Ryan and sbisa. If we did this we might take a little bit of a hit defensively but we would also be adding to our scoring depth. We would also have a young defensive core of schenn, sbisa, Ristolainen, and Gus moving forward

Sign gagne for 1 year. Or 2 if for very cheap

So this year

Schenn-Giroux-Ryan
Hartnell-couturier-Voracek
Gagne-Laughton-Simmonds
McGinn-Talbot-Rinaldo

Timonen-Schenn
Streit-Sbisa/Grossmann
Gus-Sbisa/Grossmann
Ristolainen

If we didn't land Ryan and Sbisa I would try to sign stablerg and keep read and maybe bring back gagne for a year

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-couturier-Simmonds
Stablerg-Laughton-Read
McGinn/Gagne-Talbot-rinaldo

Timonen-Schenn
Streit-Coburn
Gus-Grossmann
Ristolainen

I like the first one better but I would feel great heading into the season with the second one as well

1) trade Giroux for Weber
trade Hartnell for Yandle
trade Voracek for jBow

2) trade all remaining forwards/defencemen except Coots, Schenns and Laughton for high picks
3) create lineup with all centers
4) diversity sux, redundance rules!

Barkov-Coots-Monahan
MacKinnon-Laughton-Lindholm
Shinkaruk-Schenn-Domi
who-cares

Weber-Yandle
Streit-Timonen
jBow-Schenn

Mason
Emery

That line would squander Simmonds. Simmonds needs people who can generate scoring chances which gets his game going. Gagne is diminished and Laughton has an offensive curve ahead of him.

Preface: This is a bare-bones sketch of the team to work out from that I would prefer.

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.750m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m) Scoring line
Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m) Scoring Line 2 - Allow Couts and Schenner to reignite their chemistry -- order them to take shots to get Wayne train going
Simon Gagne ($2.000m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Matt Read ($0.900m) This line can do heavy lifting-- Read is wasted on this line, but at least he's capable of making it good should he not be traded until a later date
Jay Rosehill ($0.675m) / Scott Laughton ($1.107m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.750m) Menace Line
Tye McGinn ($0.775m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($6.000m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m) Solid
Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m) / Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) Solid--worked well historically
Erik Gustafsson ($1.300m) / Mark Streit ($5.250m) Allows a PMD pairing - one vet one pup - lots of offensive zone starts
Rasmus Ristolainen ($1.205m-for fun) / Bruno Gervais ($0.825m) Pressbox/Callups
GOALTENDERS
Steve Mason ($1.500m)
Ray Emery ($1.150m) Capgeek changed this -- should be 2-3 million.
OTHER
Buyout: Oskars Bartulis ($0.100m)
Buyout: Chris Pronger ($0.000m)
Buyout: Andrej Meszaros ($0.000m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $58,279,536; BONUSES: $2,800,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $8,820,464

If you want to move the D pairings around--such as one PMD and one D-Dman per pairing. That's balanced and okay too.

Talbot should not be a center yet alone our 3rd line center. I think the Talbot experiment at center has passed. Dude is terrribbblleee at faceoffs

If Homer some how plays it safe this offseason and doesn't bring in any really big signings or trades I wouldn't mind a lineup that looks like this

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Couturier-Simmonds
Stalberg-Laughton-Read
Talbot-Hall-Rinaldo

Timonen-Schenn
Streit-Coburn
Gus-Grossmann

Mason
Emery/Thomas

So what would it cost to get Andrew Ference? I'd really like to see him on our team and think he would be huge for our D core especially if we can get some young guys in the draft and bring them up in a few years.

he would be a upgrade over Bruno Gervais.

I would rather sign Thomas for a year than trade for a guy like luongo or miller. If people are really not wanting to sign Thomas because he is a conservative then that is just crazy. People need to he off of their high horse and stop hating on him because he isn't a bleeding heart liberal like the rest of the entertainment/sports industry. I'm not saying that is why you don't like him, just that it isn't a good reason to not want him on the team

I don't want him because I don't want a 39 year old goalie who took a year off of playing professional hockey who also has the possibility to become an off-ice distraction.

I still feel like "39" won't be that big deal with Thomas specifically (can't comment on the off-ice distraction) - since his late 20s (better early 30s) he has proven that the older he is the btter he is; and a year off usually helped him a great deal, just like finally getting his hip repaired (at the age of what, 36?)

What in the world? No, I don't want to sign him because he's old and he just took the entire year off. He's not in any shape to make a return.

Is anyone really that sold on B. Schenn as a winger? Seems to me we have the same problem of trying to play centres on the wing because we have too many. That's one reason I'd bring back Gagne. Best years are well behind hime but he's a solid winger who chips in with a points, great for the 3rd line and not too expensive (I'd think). Same goes for Fedotenko.

If you start with the 3rd line first and say: Gagne - Couturier / Laughton - Fedotenko. Put Talbot on the 4th and he can step up as an when needed.

From there say that either Schenn or Couturier is your 2nd line centre (Giroux and Voracek on 1st line). This leaves Hartnell, Simmonds and Read to take the other 3 spots.

You could to add another good winger there which means you can trade one of those 3 and 1 of either B. Schenn, Couturier and Laughton. (I guess you could drop Read to the 3rd line and not resign either Gagne or Fedotenko but I suspect when Reads contract expires he'll demand more than those two so it might be worth cashing in on his trade value now - or resign him now).

Or you could go nuts and take a shot a Seth Jones? Couturier or Laughton, 1st round pick, Cobrun or Mesz for no.2 if Colorado aren't using it. Seems there's a few things you could do if we stop trying to fit players in actually get players we need...

Fedotenko is past it. Younger and cheaper 4th liners are available.

Thought he was 3rd line. He was alright. But either way the point remains I suppose, we don't need to keep all the centres (and play them out of position) and that should give us some decent pieces to put a trade together.
