You know I hate to say it but So many of pittsburgh's players take pay cuts to play on a stack team and while i hate them i do admire heart and soul guys like dupuis and Kunitz taking lower salary just to make that team work. And then letang comes in and refuses to take 7 mill a year for 8 years? That is a generous contract to begin with , yes he could get more on the open market but really how much more?

I hope he gets traded and signs a huge contract and everyone sees how much of a fraud he is. He racks up points on a stacked offensive team and is a complete idiot in every other facet of the game. And forget about him come playoff time, might as well sit him.

I could think of a few teams, but I really don't see how the Letang camp can think they could get even a nickel more from Pens while not crippling them. (as we've seen yesterday in the trade and speculation thread)

Also, I just learnt about the CGY/COL trade (Tanguay + Sarich for Jones + O'Brien) and I got a strange feeling that Howson went to the other team from Alberta

Sounds like that's becoming more likely. Seems to me he just wants out of the Burgh. Shame too I would rather he sign and screw their cap.

CGY is preparing for the tank. Expect Cammalleri to be out this weekend as well.

Good news for large market teams... The cap is expected to make a substantial jump in 2014-2015. We might not have to worry about losing Schenn, Couts or Read. On the other hand bad news for the small market teams. Seems like the lockout is working....

I don't understand why people expected it to not jump a lot.

Even anyone with basic cap knowledge could see it's gonna happen

Yea I understand that, but it just shows Owners(Jeremy Jacobs confirmed it earlier today) so teams will have more room to spend. Just nice to see it confirmed by the people who it matters the most to. Buttttttttt, we will be heading into another lockout probably

Letangs agent countered with a 62.5 million over 8 years deal with a full NTC. Seems like he is going to be traded. Middle ground would be right around 59 million if they work a deal out.

59 over 8 is 7.375 per year.

Hard to believe they can't meet in the middle over that little bit of an amount. He wants out, the only thing that makes sense.

Impressive. There's no higher road to take than that. Kudos to Wirtz for such a noble letter.

I'd be for Holmgren kicking the tires on Cammalleri, especially as Feaster seems to be running the off-season like a flea market. Cammalleri would look good as a 2nd-line sniper, better (IMHO) than Ryder.

Cammalleri is one of my favorite former MTL players

Him and Halak dismantling the Pens in 2010 was great to watch.

Hartnell - Couturier - Simmonds

Letang - Schenn
Gustafsson - Coburn

One year left at 6 mil cap hit (owed 7 mil). Wouldn't be a bad option, especially if Calgary isn't looking for too much. Hopefully he would perform well in what could potentially be his last big contract year.

How come we didn't get a letter?

Anyway, that's a very classy move by the Hawks and Wirtz.

If that's true...what a waste of half a season. I've yet to see an answer on whether they've increased revenue sharing to the point where it can actually promote parity and keep the lower teams from struggling. If that didn't happen, well, might as well scratch out most of the season once the CBA expires.
