Lmao at how underrated Weiss is. Only way the Leafs regret Weiss is if he doesn't recover fro wrist surgery very well.

The funny thing is that one of these teams could end up with Lecavalier and the other with Weiss.
Vinny L will be in Detroit next season--no room for weiss

Who says with the buy outs and trades Detroit will have close to $21 million in cap plus there saying that there could be other trades coming as well LeCavalier could play the 1st line with Datsyuk and Zetterberg and Weiss could be our 2nd line center even if both LeCavalier and Weiss take $5mil each Detroit could easilly afford both. So there is room to for Weiss.

Wonder what kind of money he'll get.

Stealthily a really, really well-rounded player. The media and fans don't really know that because he's in Florida, but I have to imagine scouts do. If this player was going UFA out of Toronto or Philadelphia or something, he'd get a Kings' ransom just due to overhype. From Florida...I guess we'll see.

My first thought, too. How mighty generous of them. I do not appreciate them letting him test the market without me letting them make such a decision, but oh well.

I think people are underestimating Stephen Weiss. He's a hard nosed worker that can put up 20-25 goals a season and still is relatively young.

Yes, he had surgery on his wrist last season which is why he was struggling before he left for surgery. I think he's also been with a Florida team that hasn't done much year after year and emotional he is spent in Florida.

Watch him break-out with a better team.

I agree. I also don't get the comparison to Connolly, since they're not alike at all.

Toronto fans with the memory of a goldfish recall this as a barometer for UFA center signings. In reality, Weiss and Connolly could not be more different.

I'm a big Weiss fan having watched him in Florida his entire career. I wish the 2 sides could've come to an agreement before he tested the market but I'm guessing the money and more importantly the term was just not able to match up.

One thing I wanted to mention since you reference his injury and struggling, Weiss has had wrist problems earlier in his career and he's had surgery several times on his wrist & hands while with the Panthers. I think thats why its still a risky thing for teams with signing him long term. As he gets older, those wrists wont be getting any better and if he's already had multiple issues over his career, you gotta think he'll be having more as he ages.

If the Rangers wise up and buyout Richards, I'd be happy if it were them.

Rangers need a 1A.

Weiss is a 1B, but that's fine. Stepan, Weiss, and Brassard as the 1-2-3 would be very good for them.

Buyout Richards, trade Del Zotto for a young forward. Retain the RFAs.

At 30? Weiss is what he is, a marginal 1st line center on a weak team or a good 2nd line center on most teams in the league.

At 4.5 or under on a short-term deal, I'd love him on the Leafs over Grabovski..but anything more with the intention of playing him on the first line and your team isn't going to be very successful.

Since when is 30 old? lol To me at 30 a player should still be in his prime.

Pascal Dupuis last year at 33 had his most productive year ever in the NHL. He also didn't have Sidney Crosby on his line for the majority of the year.

Stephen Weiss, has been on a medicore Florida team all his career. Like I said, its just a guess, but he will have a great year with a change of scenary.

You don't think he would breakout out playing between Lupul/JVR and Kessel? He'd probably have career highs...

Would love him on the Leafs. Hopefully he feels the same way about the team as he did a couple years ago.

When was the last time a player from Florida broke out?

Nope to:

Olli Jokinen
Jay Bouw
Nathan Horton
David Booth
Chuck Testa

etc

Luongo was already a great goalie here, posted good numbers, just on a ****** team.

I hope the best for Weiss, but, I'll doubt he'll go higher than 60 points.
