Rumor has it Poile is looking for a late first round pick for Blum. I think if Poile was going to qualify him he would have done it already. No way Poile lets him walk so as it gets closer and closer I believe Poile with get rid of him for anything at that point.

He might be worth offering our 3rd. We are going to get a better prospect at 41 than Blum.

Noticed you guys aren't sure on Blum. He hasn't lived up to ay expectations besides his first year. I also think it has to do with how well we draft D-men (Weber, Suter, Klein, Hamhuis etc.) that hurts him even more.

Im hoping we get a 3rd for him because he is a good player, just not what we want nor have room for. I'd say swap him for Mesz but I think he's hurt, if someone could clarify what his deal is.

Meszaros, per Holmgren yesterday, will be cleared to play in July from the rotator cuff surgery he had after the season.

Pending a medical, I'd do this deal. I really like Mesz, but the only way we can afford to keep him is if Coburn gets dealt for forward/goalie/picks.

I'd do Meszaros for Blum in a heartbeat. Give Blum a chance to rebound here. You guys get to take a chance on Meszaros returning to form.

I wouldnt mind that trade. Is there a good possibility Meszaros returns to form? We desperately need a puck moving D-man at the 4 spot.

When healthy, he's an awesome top 4 defenseman. Can he stay healthy? That's the real question.

Well I think we could take that risk and hope he can. We don't need Blum so if I was Poile I'd do this immediately.

Don't know if mez is a top 4. Don't know if you read it but Bill M posted an article showing that when Mez sees hard competition he severely struggles. When he plays as a 5/6 he does well.

No one in particular on my mind but I do agree with the OP that perhaps it is time to strengthen the roster from the bottom up instead of the perennial big splash. Look at the teams competing for cups recently. Sure they have the big name guys, every team does, but it's the role players and bottom guys that score those unexpected goals when the big boys cancel each other out, the ones that make the big hits and lay it all out on the line. There have to be some diamond in the rough signings/trades that could be had to bolster our lineup. It's a shame the Hawks just won the cup because they have a few guys that would fill this type of role but will be getting big raises due to the championship.

If that's the case then Poile will for sure pass. We already have a surplus of guys like that.

Poile said if he can't trade Halischuk or Blum they will not get qualifying offers
Now all the people wanting to trade a second for him...... do you still do it haha

Seriously though, he could be worth a shot. Prove himself in the AHL for a little time and then when an injury happens(we know there will be multiple) call him up.

Wouldn't mind Blum. I mean, it can't hurt. Have him start the season in the ahl and give gus a spot to start the season and if he falters or there are injuries, give Blum a chance.

Trade prim is saying Blum did not get a QO. Do we make a move?

Neither Blum nor Matt Halischuk got QOs. I like them both as UFAs. Oh, and big Hal gill is on waivers.

David Poile has also decided not to extend Qualifying Offers to Matt Halischuk and Jonathon Blum, allowing them to leave as Unrestricted Free Agents when the market opens on July 5th unless a trade can be worked out before then. Blum enjoyed an up-and-down career in Nashville, and had made some progress this season, but not enough to win out in an increasingly competitive numbers game on the blueline.
Trade a low pick or low level prospect to get Blum's rights before July 5?

Some stats and review of his season:

Is Blum still exempt from Waivers?

If the answer is yes, go and get him for cheap. Low risk high reward!
If he doesn't pan out, just bury him in the Minors.

I guess a lot of teams would probably give him a shot? Can you trade for his rights and then qualify him? I mean if he's going UFA anyway some sort of future considerations would be alright, like a late pick if we sign him...

What's wrong with Halischuk? He's only 25 and was a 17th Ovr pick, dude can skate is responsible defensively and has decent hands
