March 6,1952, the Jean-Guy Talbot / Scotty Bowman Incident

Happened at the tail end of the game. Pat Curran's game report in the Gazette did not give the incident much attention.. First game of a junior doubleheader at the Forum:

http://news.google.com/newspapers?id...=5857%2C961135

Next day, just an injury report with mention of possible QAHA sanctions against Talbot:

http://news.google.com/newspapers?id...6982%2C1071996

will try to find the QAHA ruling in due time.

Interesting. Were the Reds a Chicago affiliate? Noted their jerseys (and liked the look of that goaltender Gilles Boisvert's positioning, standup, and just look at those great old 3 strapper pads & taped blocker, awesome: no mask) appear (B&W photo of course) to be the red, white & black of the Blackhawks no? How long were they around & Im assuming Trois Rivieres has a long & rich history at both the elite amateur, Jr., Intermdiate, Senior & minor-pro levels?

And Elmer Lach. I have a full colour glossy of him sitting in in the dressing room in repose, I guess just before a game, quiet moment. Red hair perfect, parted in the middle which was a bit unusual for that time, and certainly before mine, as I never did see him play. But the Legend lives on.... quite the Bounty too. $8000 in gifts & cash to send him off into retirement. Any idea what he did post hockey? Coached for awhile did he not?

Jerseys were similar to Chicago and the Providence Reds. Team was an Indy with some NHL sponsired players. Talbot and Boisvert were Canadiens owned. Jean-Guy Gendron was with the Rangers.

Elmer Lach coached the 1954-55 Junior Canadiens after retiring later the Montreal Royals in the Q.

Funny how they refer to Talbot as the "big rearguard" as he was all of 5'10 - 170lbs.

How times have changed.

Interesting. The Ottawa Citadels employing a Trap, then called Kitty-Bar-The-Door going all the way back to Art Ross's deployment of same.... and poor old Scotty. Misconduct for "abusive language".
