Interesting article from Lazerus. Not sure if he was purely speculating about 3 million being the top end value for Bickell and his willingness to take even less than that to stay in Chicago, but if so that is a pretty big win for the Hawks.

I think he might bite on $3.3 mil for 5 years with a NMC.

I think you have the wrong team adding a 1st.

Why would we add a first?! And we cannot afford the $6mm for him next year anyhow.

Leddy will not be traded, he's clearly the future on the backend.

We don't have a spot for Cammy anyway. Much less his cap hit.

As a basis for comparison, Dustin Penner received a one year $3.25 million contract. Granted, Penner for the second consecutive season did not bother to show up in the regular season.

4 years * $3.25 million = $13 million contract
4 years * $3.50 million = $14 million contract

One does wonder if the contract negotiation will come down to term, for example 4 years versus 6 years.

In order for a Prior Club to obtain a Right of First Refusal for any
Group 4 Player who has signed an Offer Sheet, the Prior Club must
offer to such Player, in accordance with Exhibit 3 hereto, a
Qualifying Offer on or before 5:00 p.m. New York time on the
later of June 25 or the first Monday after the Entry Draft of the
year he becomes a Group 4 free agent.
Such Qualifying Offer
must be for at least the Minimum Paragraph 1 Salary and if the
Player meets the qualifications for being in the Entry Level
System, an SPC for a term corresponding to the Player's age as
required under Section 9.1(b) or otherwise one-year SPC.

I don't think Leddy or Kruger will get an offer sheet which means they could both be brought back for right around $2 mil total. If thats the case and Bick takes $3.5 mil, the Hawks are easily under the cap by almost $1.5 mil

It'd be great to sign Leddy to a 1yr for <1.5, then give him a Josi like deal when the cap explodes that make the backend years dirt cheap when he progresses.

So this Monday is the deadline.

Ongoing dialogue between Bryan Bickell camp and Blackhawks, 3 straight days with conversations. still not imminent though...

They're not signing Leddy for $900k.

Leddy makes more than 1 mil. If they QO him and no one gives him an offer sheet, he plays for his same salary

Nick Leddy

http://www.capgeek.com/qualifying-of...player_id=1830

Nick Leddy's qualifying offer is for $850,500. Nick Leddy will most likely get at least double that amount.

Marcus Kruger

http://www.capgeek.com/qualifying-of...player_id=1800

Marcus Kruger's qualifying offer is for $850,500. $900,000 * 1.25 = $1.125 million which equates to a 25% raise for a fourth line center.

Except that buys out 2 years of UFA for Kindl. Leddy will still be restricted in 4 years. Kindl played 18 mins a game last year.

Leddy averaged 17:25 and the Hawks have shown in past a desire to have young talent on affordable deals for multi years even if it is only RFA years

Hawks probably would rather have Leddy locked down 4 yrs then a 1/2 yr deal
