philly - montreal proposal

Would this trades be fair?

Gagne and Esche for Kovalev a third round pick and Huet

Montreal gets their much wanted french star and a backup to Abeisher until Price is ready
Philly gets a huge upgrade with Huet (opposed to Esche) with the Nittymaki injuy who could go down anytime and Kovalev is a very good player who would fit well with Forsberg.

Huet avg's just under 3 million a year
Kovalev 4.5

Gagne just over 5 per year
Esche 1 million

Plus Philly gets a 3rd rounder

I don't think many team would want Kovy at 4.5M.

You're insane if you don't accept this deal from the habs perspective. Some people may think that Gagne is overrated, but he's twice the player Kovalev is.

sure,
demitra went for a 1st and a top prospect..
somebody would at LEAST give a 1st rounder for Kovalev(if he can at least have 1ppg ratio)
his value would also go up at the trade deadline!

i'd do it from the habs perspective and i think it might not be completely out of the question for philly to do this but I think they would want someone younger and cheaper then kovy, maybe ryder or markov. I would do it markov + huet + 3rd for gagné + esche

Pretty sure the Flyers wouldn't take Abby. Huet might not have proven more than Aebi in his career, but he's probably the safer bet.

Gagne's work ethic has not impressed me for some time. Getting rid of him is part of the solution in Philly, imho.

This is a horrible trade for the Habs. Gagne is massively overrated and will under-produce without a player like Forsberg and Esche is just poison. My impression of Aebischer so far is that he's streaky, and the prospect of a Esche/Aebischer goaltending duo is enough to make me want to leave town.

Gagne is a ton better than Kovalev. He's more consistent (even without Forsberg) and he's alot better defensively. He doesn't play 1 game outta 4 and has a better work ethic than Alex...

Flyers main need is for skating defenceman not goaltender. The way I see it losing Kim Johnsson, with only Pitkänen remaining, hurts them big time in the new NHL.

Esche is just a backup for them anyway, Niittymäki is still fine goaltender who just needs to gets his hip condition fixed (and some help on his defence). Certainly does not warrant downgrading Gagne to Kovalev for them.

Someone above DID propose dealing Markov, bad idea. You may think he is currently average, but soon Habs would be in same snafu Flyers find themselves now, Souray and Rivet playing even bigger minutes. This without ignore the depth and injury problems our defences have right now.

And from the Habs point of view, do we even have room for Gagne anymore? If Higgins plays with Koivu you get second line Gagne at 5+M, ouch. And we have plenty of young wingers in our system that become blocked by this monster 5 year contract. I'd rather secure our own defence first, before allocating more money to forwards. Or maybe that centerman.

No thanks. Gagne had a career year last year. Whether it had everything to do with Forsberg or not, I'm not convinced he can back it up.

The Canadiens don't need to be looking to make trades at this point, and trading for Gagne and Esche addresses what? What does Kovalev give Philly?

Gagne is ****. Without Forsberg, he cant do anything. Thus, methinks his ability to create plays and be effective isnt as high as some would like to think. He isnt needed here.

Kovy makes things look easy. I'd take his 4.5 over Gagne and his underserving 5 mill plus. For all the whining he did this off season, you'd think he'd come out to play.

And Esche is a serious downgrade.

I wouldn't do it... Gagné is a 30 goal scorer... that can score close to 50 with an elite player.

Yeah gagne is more a 35 goals scorer than 50 ok... but he bring a lots to a team too.

I would do this trade. Kovalev is inconstant and gagne bring a good overall game. Esche is a capable goalie.

But i dont think Clark like Kovalev when he just sent Nedved to AHL... to me.. these 2 players have some similarities.

Kind of trade that would put clark's head on the line... altought it is already.

Well. aside from the fact they aren't on the same planet, I can see the point!

The games I watched of the Wild so far,Demitra actually showed up to play all of them.

I would not do the trade because of Esche

Kovalev,Huet and Perezhogin

for

Gagne and Richards
