Oilers pursuing Coburn

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 4m
The Oilers continue to push hard on potential deals. Sources say Edmtn is aggressively after B.Cobourn.

I think I will echo the sentiments of most Oiler fans that are uncomfortable with the idea of the 7th for Coburn. Wont get many here agreeing to that. MacT might be desperate though I suppose.

If it is the #7, hopefully Philly is adding something. Like a center.

Not interested in moving out of the first round unless it's for a top line/top pairing d-man. Coburn is not a legit top pairing guy.

We are trading the pick to get immediate help. So either a current roster player, or someone ready to make the jump.

I'd push for Cousins.

Fair enough. Probably a pipe dream regarding the 7th overall

I like Coburn, but the deal has to be bigger than Coburn for 7th OV. Maybe something like Coburn+11th overall for 7th overall and a B prospect (Rajala, Gernat, Pitlick etc).

If the 7th pick was in play for Coburn, the deal would already be done. I would suspect it's something far different than the 7th overall for Coburn. He's being pretty overblown here the last month. He's a good player. Not worth the 7th overall.

I'm not sure the difference between 7 and 11 is worth the difference in Coburn (2nd pair dman) and one of those prospects.

7th overall or Klefbom + are the two logical starting points (from the Flyers perspective).

I can understand EDM fans not loving those ideas. Honestly, I'm wary of swapping Coburn for the 7th, even though its probably great value for the Flyers. Given the long-term age / health questions about Timonen, Streit, Grossmann, and Meszaros, I just really don't think the Flyers should be moving Coburn--but someone has to go, and he's the only one who can generate a useful return.

EDIT: I can't see anyway that Coburn is the make-weight for the Flyers to move up from 11 to 7. The Oilers would simply have to add too much (Klefbom?) to make it work to bridge the gap between 7 and 11 in this draft.

7th overall for Coburn? I like him but that's an overpayment.

Don't rule it out lol. Most Oiler fans are hopeful MacT will do something, but I think many of us are also a bit afraid that he is going to get desperate trying to make changes as the new guy who promised a bunch when he was hired and that he might make silly changes for the sake of doing so.

I certainly wouldn't do the 7th for Coburn. He's a solid D but not worth that kind of return imo. I hope that asking price is incorrect.

I'm sure the Oilers value the 7th and Klefbom similarly, and I just don't see Coburn being good enough to get that kind of return.
